Valve spring install

While I have a new head and it's off the car ..
I was wondering if it's possible to use a normal type valve spring compressor tool to install the springs ..?
Than use the OEM one to install the rollover followers


I feel like my old school type tool would be the way to go .. but I'm not sure as I've never don't this before

It is my understanding that if the heads are off the car you can use a regular spring compressor tool BUT it won't be as secure and difficult. I would think for sure you would need the cam out to do this. I would just get the proper tool to do the proper job. You can always sell it later. I might even have one sitting around. I think I bought it when I did my cams but never used it. I will hunt around for it but that was at least a 15 years ago.

I have the 4.0 spring compressor and that worked great so far getting two springs in..
So I guess it's the 4.0 compressor to get springs in and the OEM tool to install the roller followers
