do you need to use the variable valve timing solenoid when you use lock outs on the phaser?

There are a few write ups on it. IIRC 05stroker has a thread about changing the housing (can't think of the term right now) to a v10 3v style and plugging the holes with a freeze plug looking thing.

http://www.s197forum.com/forum/showthread.php?t=33272&highlight=v10+plates

After this thread I did endup swaping to the v10 plates and pluging the VCT hole in my valve covers with a freeze plug. The plates I made woked fine but I had know idea if there would be any long time effects on the heads so I swaped them. Also the reson for caping the vct solenoid hole was that that area saw way to much oil sling in that area.
