Weird noise has now happened twice...

2011 GT.

The first time this happened, there was a lot of other ambient noises going on so I didn't think too much of it. But about an hour ago, I start the car and suddenly, this tapping noise happened. I think it came from just behind and slightly left of center behind the dashboard. If you were to take your fingernail and tap on the passenger airbag cover, that's about what it sounds like. It's pretty loud and kinda forceful sounding.

Anyone ever have this happen? If so, what caused it?

Sounds like the blend door actuator

The motor that allows the blend doors to open and close in the ventilation system. When you switch fro AC to Defrost the Air is re-directed to different vents. That is what the actuator does.

Thanks for the responses guys. That's kinda what I was thinking. I can cycle through all settings and not have any issues. I'll keep an ear out for it in the future. Try to change the settings while it's making that noise.

Yup just had my '12 serviced under warranty for this problem. According to the writer its pretty common.

It happened again today. Damnit, I don't want to take my car in, but looks like I may have too now.

It didnt take them long to fix mine. Hopefully they have it in stock

This happened to me already. The guys responses are correct. One of the actuators is busted. Simple job if you take it to the dealer under warranty. Easy peasy. Good luck.
