Weird noise..

Ok so I'm having a problem, my 4.6 5 speed is making a horrible sound, it doesn't do it when I first start the car, I can probably go a few miles before it will start happening. I'm guessing this is because it is getting to normal operating temperature, it sounds almost like a metel fan hitting or something? The check engine light comes on and most the time it will stall out. To be clear it's not the fan hitting, that's just the best way I know to describe it. I'm new to working on my car, I'm trying to learn the best I can but I don't have the money to just throw new parts at it. Any advice is appreciated.

Where is it coming from?

A common metal grinding noise is from the metal plate between the engine block and trans bell housing contacting the flywheel on manual cars.

My 07 had the issue and I spaced the trans out with a couple of stainless washers.

At first I thought the Though-out bearing on the clutch. Another post was spacing the clutch with washers if you have recently changed the clutch but I’m guessing not. This could be your timing chain guides because the car is stalling. Or the chain tensioners are loosening oil pressure. If it was me I’d try to pin point the noise either front or back of the engine. At least you could go from there. Clutch or Chains.

If you don't have a code scanner, take your car to AutoZone or some such and ask to scan your codes. That should tell you why your check engine light is illuminated.
