Weird turning noise

I recently noticed my car has a weird growning noise when turning the wheel side to side. It also makes a little bit of a popping noise at times as well which is now noticeable when in reverse turning the wheel from side to side when moving or not. The noise is also a lot more noticeable when the air conditioner is running. Any ideas what it might be? Steering still feels like it should when turning the wheel. It isnt hard to turn or anything like that. Just is noisy.

Power steering pump
Wheel bearings
Strut mounts
Struts
Sway bar end links.

I'd start there.

A little more info is needed but Justa3v is on the right track.

How many miles? Is the groan while driving or standing still? Does the popping happen when driving over bumps or only in reverse? Going slow or fast?

Groaning when turning the wheel while not moving = power steering pump, check the fluid level. Groaning while driving and turning = whel bearing. Popping while driving over a bump = sway bar end links or strut mounts.

It's not bushings or wheel bearing or anything like that they are all good and some are aftermarket. It's most noticeable when sitting and turning the wheel. Does it while driving also but not nearly as noticeable. It is loud in reverse going slow turning on an angle. Likes to pop a little more when wheel is cranked more. It also is way louder when it's hot out. When it's cool out it doesn't really do it. And with ac on its louder.

I'm chasing something similar down as well. The sound I get is a groaning and squeak when I first back out of the garage. At first I thought it was only when moving and turning in reverse but after spending more time on it, I get it while sitting still or moving forward also, it is just much quieter. Once the car is warm I barely notice it (likely because I'm not in reverse that much) My car has new front lower control arms, tie rod ends, and I read the rear diff could also cause similar noise, so I changed the fluid and friction modifier. None of that helped. Yesterday I changed the serpentine belt (just because it was old, it didn't look bad) and the noise seemed to disappear. I'm not saying this is the solution, because I still have some clunks and squeaks to deal with, but the loud reverse whine when turning seemed to be gone. That said, I've only driven it once since the belt swap. Just something to consider before replacing pumps and steering racks. I was sure it was a rack or pump problem, but I'm not so sure now. Regardless, I'll keep an eye on the car is and this thread and hopefully we figure it out.

Just put a new belt on it like 2 months ago and this sound isn't belt related. Has to be the rack and pinion or pump I believe.

I'm going with pump for the groaning and strut mounts for the popping.

Ya it groans mostly. And like if the car sits in the sun and it's hot out the noise will be much louder and it's also worse turning the wheel to the right than the left.
