What’s my 3v engine worth?

I recently did a coyote swap and now I have a perfectly good 3v engine on my engine stand. The engine runs great and only had 68k miles when I pulled it out. I have a video showing the odometer and the engine running right before I took it out.

My question is, what’s the engine worth? It’s all there, with the exception of 1 radio suppressor that I had to use. Intake manifold to pan it is a complete engine. It never burned oil. Always used synthetic. How much do these normally sell for?

It's worth what someone will pay.. you could call local junk yards and see what they're charging for similar motors as a reference point?

Used 4.6L 3 Valve complete engines around 64K-68K sold in similar package setup as yours show to be going for around approx $2,745-$3,220 & change............as a guide of course. This really isn't a bad price for a clean, well maintained 4.6L V8 complete junkyard motor that could just be "dropped in" & run.

In the end, the engine is worth what you believe it is worth.............whether you'll guarantee its condition is another consideration to factor in pricewise as well..............IMHO I'd sell it "as is when picked up locally or shipped" & put it in writing\signature for anyone else as a condition for purchase except for certain folks you know very well.............(these days it pays to maintain the legalese...........).

I also wouldn't haggle over the price either.............these engines are rare enough w\ actual low mileage now a days that IMHO you wouldn't have to do this to sell it..........

The engine assembly might be worth $2-3k but what does the market dictate? For that amount you can get a 5.0 coyote.

Not saying you can’t get full price, but consider that a used S197 base GT Mustang ranges from $4-9k.

Put it on FB, offer up, eBay and see what happens… good luck with the sale buddy.

Thank you guys. I was thinking of putting it for sale for $2100 and seeing how it goes. I’m not sure what the market is in my area is like for the 3v because I don’t see them for sale.

There is a guy on the 6.2l forum from your area that gets 6.2,s for cheap compared to michigan. Did you get a used coyote from your area? What was that market like? Coyotes are dropping in price here. Was it worth it doing the swap?

Unfortunately, I got burned on a FB market engine. After that, I decided to build the engine I really wanted and bought everything new. I wouldn’t recommend doing it the way I did. I would source either a parts car if you have the space to keep it while you tear it down (I don’t have room for another car) or to buy a swap from a known source like the parts farm.

In the end, I’m really happy with the results but I have a ton of money into it. It puts a smile on my face and pulls like crazy all the way to 8k. I definitely recommend a coyote swap. I just don’t recommend buying it all new.

Also, I am running Matt Soppas Make it Modular harness and I highly recommend using it if you decide to swap. Very simple install and everything works except traction control.
