Anyone have any sealant they can recommend (I don't care much for wax, I prefer durability over anything) that is similar to Klasse SG but easier to freakin' apply and remove?

I know you said you don't like wax, but you should try Chemical Guys Lava, it is a hybrid glaze/tech wax with a carnauba base, that has been tested to withstand surface temps upwards of 300F. Been getting rave reviews for durability and looks.

But if you are looking just outright sealant, you can go with the new and revised Blackfire Wet Diamond

Or you can go with some of the newer Nano Resins/Polymers that last upwards of 2 years and offer a higher grade of scratch protection which are AQuartz and Opti-Coat.

I plan on going with the nano-resins but my paint has so many blemishes it's not worth it until I get someone to detail it real good.

Between the CG Lava and BFWD, which do you think lasts longer? And can you layer them?

There is no such thing as layering. Thats marketing fluff. You are going to get about the same durability out of each one.

2 thin coats is all you need, and thats only to ensure even coverage. You have the same protection with 2 coats as you would with 200 coats.

The difference between Lava and most other waxes is, Lava is just newer tech vs. the older Carnauba paste waxes which were developed under standards that are many many years old. Same with BFWD for sealants, which is why you are seeing nano resins become more popular.

Gotcha. So everyone who raves about layering Klasse SG a week apart is just BS? Personally I could never tell it looking any different with one or five coats but I thought it would help with durability.

Do you know how the BFWD compares to Klasse SG for durability?

Yep, they rock, they're local guys here in Pittsburgh, and even have a store in Monroeville Mall. Can't beat their pricing their owner was a Supply Chain Manager in a previous life, so he negotiates the best pricing out of anyone I've ever come across.

I seriously appreciate the heads up on this man. Saved me around $30. Looks like the first round is on me

I just put BFWD on my Black GT and while it was good, I wasn't blown away like I was expecting. My next purchase is going to be the Lava.

Of course it helps with durability, you keep adding coats. So you are refreshing it, not adding to it. If you read some posts on autopia, how guys are "re-applying" Klasse and other sealants every few weeks then boast 6 months or so of protection, well DUH. Because you basically reapplied the sealant over 12 weeks lol.

Gotcha, let us know how two compare!

Gotcha. That makes sense. I was hoping more for an apply once and forget about it for months haha. So between the Lava and the BFWD, which do you personally recommend? I have a black car, the paint is swirly everywhere and I like it when it shines like a mirror. But if anything, I like ease of application.

Lava has a glaze component built into it, which will "cover up" some of those swirls.

Where BFWD looks nice, it is still a sealant and still has sealant properties of appearance. It is one of the wetter looking sealants out there.

As far as durability is concerned, they are both about the same. I honestly cannot quote you the specifics because it depends on your environment. If you are living somewhere with a lot of high temps, you'll most likely need to reapply more often. Or somewhere where it rains fairly often etc. They are all factors.

Personally, if it's not a nano resin/polymer, expect 6-8 weeks tops out of it before it starts to degrade.

Gotcha. Thanks again Seer, always informative and helpful!

Just a random question: are you using a nano resin now?

You try BFWD? I mean there are sealants out there with better durability but it looks great. I've got it on my truck currently until I can find the time to do a full detail on it.

I haven't tried it. Problem is I still have a lot of Klasse SG to go through and it wasn't cheap so I'm probably going to tough it out and use it up.

Billy, I used Blacklight last year and loved it, you should give it a try since I have a bottle!

Sweet thanks! I love the Klasse stuff but I suck at applying it, it's always too thick and impossible to buff.
