What else would you do "while you're at it".

Hello everyone,

I'm going to be checking the fluids, filters, test the battery etc. on my 2010 4.0 V6. The basic checks by a non-professional who took delivery today.

Since I don't know the car well, I'd love to be told what to do 'while you're at it'.

For example, I'll be inspecting and/or replacing the cabin air filter. I know from reading your posts that (while I'm at it) I should check the cowl drains for clogs before I get water in the footwell. Stuff like that would be awesome to know. In my truck when I replace the PVC valve I clean the throttle body 'while I'm at it' because the air box and engine cover are already off.

That kind of stuff would be great to know.

Have a great evening!

You seemed to have touched on most of the basics, not to familiar with the 4.ol, but if it's like the 4.6 I find the maint. pretty basic and the car will treat you right. Enjoy the car, stock or modded these are fun vehicles.

When you check the cowl drains, grab a pliers and just pill them out. Much less of a possibility for them to get clogged in the future.

First thing I noticed was the location of the oil filter which lets me go back to using lasagna pans for lasagna. I'm looking at you, 5th gen ram.

On the 4.0 a common failure part is the plastic thermostat housing. It is often misdiagnosed as a bad water pump. Usually the coolant spews back under the intake manifold so look for evidence of a leak on the backside of the housing. It isn't a matter of "if" the plastic housing will fail, only "when".

There is an aluminum replacement available on Amazon. It is an easy to replace part, takes about 20 minutes.

On the right side of the shifter (automatic transmission) there's supposed to be a cap or cover that hides the brake shift interlock

In this picture I found it's at the bottom.

I'm pretty bad at finding parts and part numbers, and haven't found one for this, and was wondering if anyone could tell me what it's called.

Sorry about the giant picture. Bad at that too
