This is when I like to use Dawn before a full detail (and only before a full detail). But, if I feel that the vehicle doesn't have much wax on it anyways, which should be the case if you're doing a full detail anyways, than I'll go on with my 'standard' wash and than proceed to clay.

What do you like to use for a regular wash?

I'm in love with Chemical Guys Maxi-Suds II, myself. It works great for foam with the gun and excellent in a bucket, too. It won't strip wax or sealant either and smells fucking great.

I've been using DP Xtreme, works awesome in the foam gun and in the bucket. Super sudsy, it's a little harder to rinse since it's so sudsy, but I'm okay with that. It's expensive though.

I am just curious what claybar is for. .

See my vid in the thread "For what its worth...".

And you need to do it even if its a new car, whether off the lot or ordered in and right off the train car. The paint will accumulate "rail dust" in transport. Metallic and organic crap from the rails, train car brake shoes and w/e other crud floating around that can accumulate, esp if it went through tunnels on its way to you.

Also, even if its off the lot and "detailed" from the dealer it is almost certain it wasnt clayed before the "detail" process which will have ground in these said contaminants. So you need to do this asap when you get your car. I had my car ordered but I specified no prep, leave it in the wrapper, not only becuase I wanted all that stuff but also to keep them from fucking up the paint.

The older the car is the more imperative this is because few owners clay.
