I have a 13 gt with track pack and when i drive the car it is difficult to shift from first to second gear until the car has been driven for at least 30 minutes. oddly enough if i give the throttle a blip once the clutch is depressed it seems to go into second easier. this car has 2400 very easy miles on it and the problem is only when upshifting and only first to second gear. third to second or second to first are fine. is this normal for the MT82? oh and it doesnt matter if it's 30 degrees or 50 degrees outside.. same issue no matter how cold it is

There is a TSB for this put out for ford for the 2011-2012. I'm not sure if this applies to the 2013 but this is typically on exhibited in cold weather and not nearly the length of time you described. Not sure if this is exactly your issue but it was the first thing that came to mind. http://mustangsdaily.com/blog/2011/...1-mustangs-to-resolve-cold-shifting-problems/

You could have them try the above and see if it resolve anything. For my MT82 I don't see this. If I do it is a very small amount of increased effort.

I would have it checked. My MT-82 does what I want without any resistance. Even in -10 degree weather. It's a little bit notchy when cold but that's normal for any manual because the fluid is cold. Other than that its smooth as butter.

Pretty normal. Mine is a little notchy until warmed up also and then shes smooth as butter. What did you drive before buying the 13?

It's barely slicked up yet, give it some more miles. Start getting on it a bit more. Easy break in is a thing of the past. You already have Ford's solution to cold-shifting issues in the transmission, namely QDC fluid.

You might consider a simple shifter bracket. That often helps alot with all kinds of shifting issues. However, cold these gearboxes can be a little stiff, as has been mentioned.

There are a few other issues that can cause what the op describes one being loose bolts on the pressure plate ... Take the car back and have them check everything before trying any mods .... As others have said when its right the transmission shifts fine so no what your describing is not normal

Every manual gearbox has its own quirks, im not talking just model, im talking same model, year engine configuration. The clutch will be different as well.

Mine is a 12 with the mt86, first few miles its stiff and does not like to be shifted smoothly. You have to power into gear. I did notice that after 5k or so the trans smoothed out quite a bit, still touchy when its cold, but that's the least of my worries as the pzeros turn into solid wood at anything under 50f.

The reason it's been driven easy is the insane wheelhop in first and second gear with the summer only tires. probably going to get some new all season tires, i'd rather have them go up in smoke instead of wheel hopping and breaking the trans or an axle.

A good set of poly/poly bushing LCA's will fix the wheel hop problem. The MT82 is notorious for notchy shifting when cold. Adding a Barton shifter bracket will help with overall shifting but doesn't cure the cold shift problem. When I had the 2011 GT I would just start out in second until the tranny fluid got warmed up and then it shifted like butter.

how did you get a mt86? mine is similiar to the rest on here...a bit notchy when cold but smooths out after a bit of a warm up

My 13's 3rd gear has a slight nibble when cold even with a MGW installed. 2nd ain't bad when cold but not perfect either. Def doesn't take 30min of driving to go away. I only have 785 miles on er so I'm not too concerned.

ok, so today i drove the car 10 miles into town at 60 mph, pull away from the stoplight and first to second still stiff, drive the car through town for about 15 minutes and then let it idle while sitting in a parking lot eating lunch. drive away and still a hard time going from first to second and a slight crunch when going second to third at low speeds. finally after the 10 mile drive back home it's starting to shift smoother.. strange thing is when cold if i bring the rpms up with clutch depressed and before shifting it goes in nearly perfect.. it acts to me like a clutch that isnt fully releasing. guess i need to schedule a trip to the dealership sevice dept. I'm so very tempted to say fuck it and take the loss and trade it in a Gotta have it green A6 at the local ford dealer.

Mine's a little difficult to shift in cold weather as well. I almost always give it at least 30-40 secs to warm up before I start moving...

Mines a little 'rough' on start up during colder weather (doesn't really get that cold in SoCal anyway) but only for the first few mins of driving until the trans warms up.

I put 'rough' in quotations because its not that I really have to force it into gear, it's just a little more notchy than normal. I'm going to switch to an Amsoil trans fluid when I get my MGW shifter and that should take care of it for me.

If yours is really bad I would say take it to the dealer and get it checked.
