My only concern with livernois motors would be there in house "custom billet crank". My feelings on this are that some one makes it for them, and not because they couldn't buy a better one. I would have to believe it is a cost issue. Its a custom crank because its cheaper. Cheaper in the crank shaft world is not better.

It was not a livernois crank that failed me, but i had an in house custom crank from a company put in my 418. With 700 miles on it, it broke. Taking with it my $900 SRP piston, $1600 4340 Rods, $350 cam, my $2500 block, and my $2300 transmission.

From the parts total above not including labor i was out roughly $7700 because i was talked into saving a few hundred dollars on a "cheaper" crank.

Might check with Forward Performance on here. Last I heard Leland had a pretty good price on that shortblock.

I sent Leland a PM yesterday. Thanks.

myystanng - I have a Hellion turbo system and was pushing 9.5 psi and right at 480 rwhp. It wasn't a tune issue, I have been at that level with the turbo for about 2 years. It was my fault, motor over revved. Damn shift light didn't light up and I had the limiter set too high. I always knew that it could happen with the stock bottom end and I guess it finally did. Oh, and yea, I think that maybe the 8.7 might be a little low for a DD. Unless my tuner could do something like push the timing down low and then take it back out as the RPM come up. That may take care of it. Not sure, I would have to discuss that with him.

I notice people mentioned Livernois and their "great" customer service, but I have to warn you about them and my personal experiance.

I bought a set of stage 3 heads fom them. They were supposed to be ported to flow 300 cfm on the intake valve, and 200 cfm on the exhaust valves. Also, the valves were supposed to be SS & oversized compared to stock.

When they showed up, the port sizes were identical to a set of stage 2's we had on the bench. I measured some of the ports and they were the same size within 0.003". Also, the valves were SS, but the exact same size as the stockers.

I called them up on the phone and argured with them about it for 3 hours. They swore up and down that the only diff between stage 2 & 3 was the SS valves. Not oversized valves or better flow rate. I told them that I bought them based on the published specs on the web page. The guy asked to call me back.

They actually went and changed the web page, called me back and said the web page did NOT have the specs I mentioned, told me it was never published with the specs I mentioned, told me I got what I paid for, and more or less told me to go screw.

3 people at the suppoting shop heard the calls and witnessed the change in the website between calls.

I noticed that today, 5 months later, the same basic specs I was told didn't exist, are now posted on their site again. Who knows when they changed that back.

And FWIW, although 2nd hand information, I know two people that recently had their 1000 hp SB's come apart at half that power. Both of them have been billed full retail for repairs, being told that the failures are "tune" related. One was reported as "ring wash" and the other as "too lean"... funny part is the damage was exactly identical in both cases... WTF?

Doesn't sound like "great" customer service to me...
Plus 1, on your story. One of many around the country with purchases from them. Its seems this site is in "bed" with them. Be careful and do your on research. Never listen to anyone but yourself when it comes to motor choices.

Good advice. That is what I am working on. I have feelers out all over the place including local. I do however rely on this site for 99% of my internet info. Most of the other sites are mostly BS when it comes to S197's.

Does anyone know if you can get an Aluminator with more than 8.7:1 compression? I am looking for 9.1 - 9.3 or so.

Rypper 1, that sounds exactly like my set-up (Hellion turbo, 9.5 boost, stock internals). Where did you have your rev limiter set? Bumped mine up to 6500........

I feel like the pin is still in the hand grenade, but maybe I'm being optimistic?!?!?!?

I have a MMR 1150 forged aluminum shortblock with their stage 3 heads. it makes over 1050RWH with a 2.8 KB Mammoth and 150 shot of N2O with no problem. It is a daily driver as well so they will hold up. The quality and service you recieve from Mark Luton and his gang is second to none. Nicest people you can deal with. He knows his stuff on modulars. I don't think you can get a better shortblock for the money that has the value and quality craftmanship that theirs have. The Aluminator is not all it's cracked up to be so go with a custom build. Besides, it's over priced. Try MMR, you won't regret it. Here is their website and an example of what you are probably looking for.

They used the Aluminator in Justin's car last season for 9.20's. The eight second runs have come with an RGR-built 322".

Actually we went the first 8 second run ( 8.89 ) with the Aluminator. We've since gone to the RGR unit for the 8.48 times. Also keep in mind RGR and us can put you together a nice shortblock with whatever compression your looking for without the big dollar race block. We can build anything.

Speaking only for myself, I learned from my build that it's good to have your builder also be your tuner, so there's no finger pointing later on. So no mail order stuff for me, regardless of the quality.

I think I learned that. Maybe not.

I thought the same thing. Spent 7k on a built SB and the fuck face (forcefed performance in Sacramento) tuned it with #15 procharger to a whopping 470rwhp! Wooooooooo

Ohh.... Fuck MMR!!!!!

The correct question for an MMR customer is...

Got a running car??
