I'm STILL having this issue with the car! I would go cruisin around. Sometimes rough. Sometimes just a nice chill cruise. Whenever I come to a stop light or go to park. THIS happens!

This is the 5th time in the past 2 months! It's completely random when it happens! Car is perfectly fine until it lowers to an idle and starts sounding like a blown motor.

All I have to do is turn it off. And turn it right back on again and Magic! It's fixed! Ideas??

My car will do that same thing if you lug it too hard, like trying to leave in 2nd.

I believe I've read on here that what is going on is that the oil pressure gets too low to control the phasers properly and that's actually what's making the noise.

I thought the wife blew up my new to me car the second day I had it while I was teaching her to drive a stick, lol.

Lol. Well it sounds as if it just isn't firing on all cylinders as well.

Haha that would of freaked me out.

Mine sounded EXACTLY the same. Missing and shaking too. I can duplicate it any time just by letting the RPMs drop too far. I did a lot of reading about similar issues on here and thats what it seems was agreed upon from what I found.

I'd say up your idle a couple hundred RPM and it probably won't happen anymore unless you lug it too hard.

Why after 3 years would it just now be doing this though? Confusing.

Wear. Clearances increase and pressure drops. If it's loud enough to hear like yours is then there is a good chance you are also starving the cam journals too.

Seriously, the motor is designed to supply proper oil flow at 760 rpms. Lower the rpms and it's just a guess as to how much oil will make it to where it needs to go. That video doesn't sound good at all. I'd try to prevent that from happening again by raising the rpm.

Is this something that can be fixed with those billet gear high pressure pumps that various companies make?

Up the rpms it is. Replace both solenoids just for the heck of it as well?

So the past week I raised the rpms. Still did it once. Just took out the vct solenoids to snap some pictures:

They look good to me, no build up or shavings on the screens so that's a good sign, this would have been what you're looking for, I'd say take a stethoscope and try to pinpoint the and start there

That's the thing. That knocking/misfiring sound comes and goes totally random. Oil pressure loss...? What else aside from pump and sending unit could contribute? And is there a way to check those two items to see if maybe their going bad?
