How's it goin all, I'm probably beating a dead horse here with this question but I'm stuck on whether or not to go long tubes or shorties. I was fairly certain I wanted a set of kooks LT's/ catted x pipe combo until my buddy mentioned that with LT's they pose a clearance issue with the transmission. Essentially he said in the event I need to replace my clutch, I will have to remove the headers and buy new gaskets, making a fairly straightforward process a bit more involved and expensive. He went on to say that shorties do not pose such an issue. So I'm stuck here and could use a bit of your thoughts on this. Thanks

I am going to go with long tubes on mine just for the sound. But my understanding there is not that much horse power diff between the two. Just the sound of them are totally diff.

This isn't a tech subject. Should have posted in chit chat. We also have a search feature.

This is true. But will cut you slack since you are new to this forum.Go LT's or stick with stock manifolds. The gains with shorties are so minimal you won't even feel it.

Shorties are a complete waste... If no turbo go with Longtubes. I did and am completely happy! Sounds killer too!

LT seems to be worth around 10-15whp. So for 400+ bucks and 2hours to install is it worth it? Thats where I'm at.

Shorties are great.....for a paper weight...

Longtubes or nothing.

Load of crap on the new 5.0. My car has put out better numbers with shorties than any of the long tube cars here on the same dyno, same day, etc.

For the 4.6, I believe it to be a different story.

2 DAYS for me to install and ~$1200 bucks later(kooks ceramic coated headers and O/R H = mucho denaro)lol.

Cut up hands, arms, major blood loss from wounds, sore back for at least a week not to mention having to lift the car up in the air on jackstands high enough to get all this done.

Was it worth it?

AB-SO-FREAKIN-LUTELY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :thumb2: If I sold this GT and got another one, the very first mod I'd do is a full exhaust with LT's.:thumb2:
