This is good info. Now is there a timing cover that fits this early style block with 3V heads? I know the Explorer and Mustang share the 3L2E part#, but clearly they are slightly different cause of the oil leak problem.

The 3L2E blocks are all exactly the same. The only timing cover issue should be with the earlier "Teksid" blocks ('93 through early '99) and possibly the early WAP blocks (Late 99 through early '01). The 1L2E blocks (mid '01) and the 3L2E blocks will all accept the 3V timing cover without issue.

If there is an oil leak issue with a 3L2E block and 3V timing cover it's not because of the block. It's got to be a seal issue, or crack, or something else.
