10+ Taillight Thought...

So the rear's of the 10+ Mustang are a love or hate relationship. Mainly for me, I still can't quite like the taillights. So I had a thought today.....I've seen where they make 05-09 taillights in the same style as the 10+...what if somebody made the 10+ taillights in the same style as the 05-09s? Putting the reverse lights back in their "normal" spot?

same here... i hate the 05-09 rears.. i think the 2010+ look way better and modern.

Only thing wrong with the rears are the fact the decklid doesnt line up with with the lights. Other than that leave the 05-09 out of this.

Hahaha bandwagons are tempting seductresses. Before the 10s: so ugly blah blah blah. After 10s: I actually think they're the best. I didn't hear a single peep out of anyone about the 05s looking bad till now. Personally I think with the right mods the 10s can look good, but the 05s are still king.

To answer the q, without the reverse light separation, the 10s would look much cleaner. A tint would accomplish a lot that said. I think then the only thing that's needed is a center trim panel.

I've seen a few in black with blacked out taillights and they looked clean. But I chose my 09 over a ten for the older backend. The front on the new style almost makes up for it though.......

Most of the time people will comment highly on what they have. I had the option to buy an 05GT new and opted for an 04 Cobra in mint condition with 15,000 miles owned by a lady. That was a no brainer for me. Until the 10 came out I didn't think twice about the 05-09 and always thought it was very plain looking with the exception of the Saleen which I like. When the 5.0 came out in the new body style I was hooked and purchased mine. It's all opinion and that's about all it boils down to.

i love the 05-09s overall..and i love the 10+, minus the rear, it still gets to me..i tinted my tails on the '12, and it still hasn't quite done it for me...wonder if somebody like am would do the lights like i talked about in my original post......

I think its freakin dumb as a rock that a company made 05 tails to look like the 10s. And yes, Ive been waiting since the 10s came out for some company to make proper tails for it. STILL waiting. GRR! Wtf?

As Ive said numerous times, I could get used to all the stupid shapes and curves on the 10+ rear, but I cant and wont ever get used to those ******, "twin reverse" tails.

1. You don't want to dilute all of the retro out of the Mustang, and once you start down that path it's kind of hard to back up and start over. On the other hand, if you still think that the Probe should have been the Mustang of 20 years ago (and that this site be yet another FWD platform forum), you probably wouldn't mind losing the retro.

2. There's nothing wrong with 'up to date' as long as the lines and shapes look like they have a reason for being that shape. If you can find a good reason for the little downward points on the '10 taillights that are just plain odd-looking when viewed from most angles, I'm listening. Otherwise it's just retro to some other cars - like the older Japanese and more recent Bangle-BMW styling trends that emphasized "surface excitement" above overall form.

3. Effectiveness of the lower bumper treatment probably depends on the color of the rest of the body. Different enough to make the rear look "lighter" without looking like they screwed up the paint mix and without drawing the eye down is probably more difficult than it sounds, but the lower treatment needs to be as subtle as possible. It's not the most important feature of the rear of the car.

The 10+ rear is a lot like the last model Impreza WRX. I hated it when it came out but it grows on me. I'm sure in another 6 months I'll love the 10+'s too. At least until the '13 comes along and blows everything out of the water!

Don't know if a piece of plastic between the tail lights makes it look any better... IMO it looks cheap.
