Return fuel DDs, has anybody checked fuel temps?

Ok, I had it that way before, then switched pre rail, temps were bad then but now are quite worse as the returned fuel may not be as hot as before (and that shows as when you go WOT now you see FRT drop considerably) but the fuel that is kept in the rail is quite heatsoaked.

I think I'll switch back to a post rail config but with a single line for now and install the cooler and that should work best if I like what I get will enable the Y again and feed each rail individually back again.

When to do some laps at our local track, changed the hoses around and set the regulator post rail with a crossover.

Running it with just one pump delayed the heat by a lot, on a 90 degree weather a 2hr trip with one stop in the middle was needed to make it reach the mid 120's. During the lapping and the return trip it reached 138, with much colder weather and all in never went back below 125.

I still do not like those temps, when fuel is heatsoaked it sucks, will install the cooler maybe this week and hope to do a similar trip in a couple of weeks and see how it goes.

Switching some pumps off for part throttling driving helps. I can switch on/off/hobbs each of them.

Ok, have still to test it a lot more but since the cooler install the temps have never passed 118F.

The only spot I've found it to fit was the other frame rail, move to the front and massaged the cooler quite a lot because of the frame connectors, moved the return line from the driver's to the passenger's side.

what brand is that? a friend of mine is having issues with his return setup and we think it is due to high fuel temp.

Hey Lito, I'm BlueStang07s friend, wondering why you installed the cooler in the return side of the system? Thanks again for the help man.

Right or wrong I mainly did it this way because:

First and most important, the thing is huge and would not fit on the driver's side with the filter, Y, fuel lines and evap lines already there, the easier line to move was return.

Also, took into consideration that this being an inline cooler and even that it has some fins inside it would work better if the fluid was kept in it a little longer so allowing it to exchange some temp.

and finally, intank fuel temps raise due to heated returned fuel into it so trying to cool it the fuel that carried most hit before that made sense.

That sounds logical lito, I'm going to have to look into which side of the system would be better for my application but I'll more than likely end up running it similiar to yours. Appreciate the insight man!

You can monitor your current temps thru datalog or an aeroforce, it takes time to heat the fuel, specially if your tank is full, for a drag car I don't see it worthy at all, only for a street car and will work best on long trips. If you monitor your temps now you'll see them rise really slow but steady and basically every degree gained is kept.

Also, I assume you ran the return line up the passenger side of the tank and over the "saddle"...any pics would be greatly appreciated. I have the same cooler and am working on figureing out where I want to put it.

Haven't used the car much as I am waiting for a new set of heads to arrive still and take the livernois with POS guides off to repair and sell.

The few test I've done I've seen in a 90F heat that it tends to stabilize around 120F, if you get into traffic it goes higher, about 140F or more, but now if you start rolling it goes back to 120F, before, the temperature gained will never be lost until you stopped the car.

Thanks for the info. Ill get mine plumbed in one way or another. May engine bay gets super heat soaked and I can only imagine the impact it would have on fuel temps. I just need to decide which side will be the easiest. The passenger side or the driver... Good luck with those heads. I had a set with the same issue.

My driver's is all cluttered with filter, Y and hoses so I had to do it on the other side, this thing is quite big.

I ordered a cooler yesterday and it showed up today. Picked it since it had -8 AN fittings. Showed up and the dimensions as labeled in the catalog were bigger than anticipated. Then I remembered this thread and realized it was the same cooler. I have the Y block and filter all under the driver side also but I did completely remove the OEM fuel lines and evap giving me a little more room. I would like to mount it on the passenger side but Fore changed the return line configuration on their hats making it a challenge to run the return line under the passenger side.

The block between the fittings is the return port and it only fits one way. I had to turn the fitting to the right of the return port 180* and install a -6 AN 90* fitting to give a little extra clearance around the return port. I don't think I would be able to run the return hose in from the passenger side without going to a -8AN 180* fitting and reworking the 3 feed lines. Part of it depends on how much -8 hose I have also.
