So last night I wanted to see how many leds were in the gauge cluster so i could order some to replace them. I had to pull apart the gauge cluster and take off the needles. Well i went to put back everything and then found my needles were completely off. After doing tons of searching i found no "simple" way to reset them. Well, i found my own and it works perfect. Enjoy

Well to get to the back of the gauge cluster you have to take out the gauges. Its held in by four 7mm bolts. Once out you have to disconnect the switch from the back. Then there are 5 clips holding the glass piece one. simply pull the clips off one by one and the glass piece should come off. Be careful not to loose the reset button if you have the 4 gauge cluster as well as the spring sitting behind it in the gauges. Now you need to remove the needles. Be very careful doing this. The smaller needles should come off by hand and the big needles will have to be pulled off by a plastic pry fork. I used some kitchen chicken prong that worked fine.

Once the needles are off, then plug the gauges back in with the car on accessory. You will here them reset back to zero. Once they are set, put the needles about 1/4 of the way on so if you need to pull them off again you can do so easily. When you set them on you want them to be were they would settle when the car is off. RMP slightly below 0, Speedo right at 0, Gas just below E, Temp just below the single solid white line, Battery at the single L red line, and Oil at the single L red line. Once you have them set rest the gauges and start the car. This is to make sure when the speedo and rpm kick back past zero they dont go to far. Once they are all set then re-assemble and your good to go. Worked perfect for me and sure it will the same for everyone else. Pic below for reference.

I had actually read up a different way of doing it when I had changed out my gauges. They way I did it was a little tricky but worked.Interesting and glad that worked for you though! The blue looks great as well as factory! Way it should of came if you ask me..

Just for reference sake:
The way I did it was to place each needle back on firmly but not too much and then to place them on 0 or the red line. The MPH needle just below the 0, RPM needle just below 0, Fuel needle just below the red line etc. etc. Once you do that you would take your finger and rotate them completely clockwise until they stop, or counterclockwise when dealing with 2 bottom gauges, and then clock them back (counter-clockwise) just slightly below their normal resting positions. Once you put the gauge cluster back in and plug it up, it'll go right back into place. I had trouble the first time because when I plugged it back in, the needles jumped up past their normal resting points. Like my MPH was showing like 3 MPH. Oops!

I see american muscle's way is close to what I'm talking about.

Hated how the color didn't come out like we talked about, supposed to be a darker gray, but I had contacted a company called BlackCatCustoms about making me one that resembled the GT500's and this is what he come up with. He now mass produces them and sales them. :)

We had a few tweaks after this but basically the "almost final" revision. This was done over 2 years ago btw. :)

do you have mycolor? is that how you got your lights blue? Did he put on the Ford Racing Logo? Could he do like a Saleen style one up to 200MPH with only 4 gauges?

Yep on the MyColor. Actually all the red and blue you see is the film he used when making those particular parts of the gauges those colors. But yes I did/do have MyColor and had it set to blue and the red would light up red and the blue light up blue. Now if had changed the MyColor to say green, the red letters/numbers would turn an ugly shade of green. Hopefully all that makes sense!

Yep I had him take out the SVT he put there originally and put the Ford Racing logo there.

He probably could to be honest. I talked to him about a month or so ago about making a GT500 one for the 2010+. I want one so bad! He said he hasn't gotten the chance to pick up a 2010 or 2011+ gauge cluster yet to mock one up though. Boo!

Did you find the correct LED's? I have done the color conversion several times...it's a true PITA. There are 4 solder points on EACH LED.

Wish you had waited.....I have about 1000 PLCC-4 SMD LED's. Those you bought may be really bright.

we'll see how they look, if i dont want them i'll let you know. i know my buddy Randy wants to do the same. so he may take yours. and pics of them installed in the gauges?
