RP is alright, but IMO it's not worth the price. Mobil1 is just as good.

Not to get into an oil war, but mobil 1 is rated as a group III blended synthetic, whereas RP is a group IV pure synthetic.

So technically RP is slightly better. But IMO You can get better oils for the same price.

I use Castrol Syntec....I stock up when Walmart has it onsale.

Has anyone heard of any problems with using Royal Purple oil in the -2005-2009 4.0liter or 4.6 ..... there is some rumers that it can damage the motor. Please let me know

This. Mobil 1 is not actually synthetic.

I work with a guy who used RP in his 2008 GT. He had a tapping/ticking on one side and Ford replaced the tensioner. Went back later because the other side was doing the same thing. The dealership asked him to prove that he had been doing oil changes so he did and was using RP. The dealer said they would not warranty it because RP wasn't the "recommended" oil. The dealership said that they had to get the Ford rep involved and after a while he gave up and put 5w30 in the car. That helped a lot. I don't believe that RP caused his problem.

I have used the Motorcraft partial synthetic 5w-20 from the day my car was bought. Haven't had any issues.

i saw a motor it destroyed down at pro-dyno. the bearings came out beside the crank and rods. i have never seen that before.

The things I've read involved the detergents (or lack there of) in Royal Purple. Seems that it's a good race oil but needs to be changed more frequently due to the additive package of the oil.

Dunno I don't run it as I can't just go buy it at the local store sometimes. Wal-Mart, Autozone and O'Rileys all carry Motorcraft, Mobile, ect and are easy to to find around here.

Honestly I don't see it causing an issue as long as you change it on a semi-regular schedule just like any other oil out there.

I've used it in my 2002 GT, and use it in my 2011 GT. I haven't had any problems so far. (knock on wood)

Some mobil 1's are. The variants most Mustang owners use, such as 5w20 and 5w30 are not. 0w20 is a group IV.

Why wouldn't you change it at a regular interval? Mine gets changed every 5000. Been using it for years. The only bearing failure I've had was while using 5w-20 Castrol.

You got some bad info from the internet.

Here's a virgin analysis I had done on 5w-20

Here's the used oil analysis:

This was from a supercharged motor taking abuse.

After having these two samples done I came to the conclusion that oil analysis was a huge waste of money for anyone except commercial operators running heavy equipment.

That was the end of my short lived oil geek phase. Thank the Lord! The most important thing is to change it regularly.

I can't see those at work but I have no doubt they read alright. The info I got was off the BITOG forums.

As you and I both said the main thing is to change it on a schedule. For a normaly street driven car 8-10k changes should be good to go. For a tracked or autocrossed car you might want to shorten it. I change mine on a 5k interval for convience and the fact the car gets driven hard on backroads, autocrosses, ect.
