Hi everybody
Does anybody know if a 07 PCM will work in a 05 Mustang?
A friend of mine wants to convert his 05 auto to manual transmission and as we know he needs a manual PCM for this job.
He can get a 07 manual PCM, but will this work? Has anybody done this before?
I´m hoping for your assistence

do a search..
NO!
05/06 are compatible.
07+ has different pin configurations.

same for engine wiring harnesses.

manual and auto pcms are different, too.

They are different. Both harness and PCM and he stated above. I know they have diff knock sensors and they read different. So that's one reason. As far as pin fitment. They may have some different but usually PCM pins are standard. But can u just tune the auto PCM and turn off the trans stuff? If u want more detail I can can compare the two wire diagram and find the different for u if you want. But for sure u will need the 07 knock sensors as they read different.

As stated, no.

Pin wiring is different, not the end of the world but will require some repinning.

Nothing related on the knock sensors.

Trans stuff can't be turned off. There are ways but HPtuners can't do it.

Now, on your stuff, if you have an SCT device it can be done with what you have. There are swaps documented around, need an experienced tuner that could the strategy side right.

You do not need a new pcm or wiring harness.

Don't mean to thread jack... but will a 2010 ECU hook up to a 2008 block if the ECU is flashed?

@all
Thanks for your informations, so it doesn't make sense that he buys this pcm
@lito
Sounds good, but I'm not sure that we can find some one experienced over here in germany to do this tune...

Easiest would be to get someone who CAN turn off the auto trans features in the PCM to do so, even if it's a remote/email tune. Then do the conversion and load the tune.

@ lito. I noticed that knock sensors from 05-06 are diffs from 07-09 as far as datalogging. Also diff part numbers.my questions is have u ever mixed and match and see if they still work ? Usually I just use what they come with. Just curious.

Really? So y did u go with those instead or just had them ? Do they work the same or is there an advantage ? Cause they do have different part numbers I just figured they might be slightly different. Even the pids are different. Example the 05-06 pids at idle read about 100 and go up in the thousands and 07-09 start at about 40ish and go up to about a few hundred. I think stock settings on these pull timing at about 700. As oppose the older pull at about 3k. But that could be just in the PCM I guess.

Spark knock is handled in the tune (PCM). When tuning, the tuner should look for spark knock to see if any is occurring and under what conditions. Not as big a deal on n/a cars.

Pids are what the PCM reports upon being "queried" or asked for a specific data value; it'll return whatever it reads or calculates.

I don't know what the part numbers are on the ones on my motor; unless I can read them off of pics that were taken, I wont know, either :)

Yeah I understand how knock works. Just find it weird that the knock sensors have different part numbers and look the same. So there has to be a difference some how. They show up different it not like the older style knock sensors or gm sensors were 0 means no knock and any numbers are bad These work different So I figured changing these and using the stock tables may be a big mistake and the pids are no longe accurate. That's y I never mixed these up. Just wanted to know if someone has.

Good points, and good find. Knowing the difference would be nice. Is it just manufacturing difference with the same output characteristics, or what?

Hptuners with GM usually shows knock retard, in Ford shows sensors noise, if you ask me, their logger is pretty useless. Other loggers show knock retard like the GM's with HPt.

Do u know which loggers shows up as GMs. Cause all my 3 loggers show up the same. (hpt, diablo, IDS).

As far as the sensors. I would like to know too. What's different. I was hoping someone knew. Parts shows them as different and should not be interchanged.

Regarding the sensors, can't help as there are no more than a handful of 05-06 cars down here, Ford brought 07-08s only.

SCT/Livelink does.
