I got a Cool Shirt system last year.

Ran it for one event before the weather cooled off and it worked fine.

Pyrotect SA2005 helmet: A little on the heavy side, but it fits my miniature mellon to a tee with an XS shell, and small cheek pads.
Sparco balaclava: Mandated, works fine.
DefNder head/neck restraint: Love it. Very comfortable, side tethers are the icing on the cake.
OMP One FIA 8856-2000 suit: Very comfortable, and actually affordable!
FAST Cool Suit: Just the ticket for enduros! I got the one with the timer, and you just swap out frozen gallon containers of water with the driver changes.
Sparco nomex socks: Mandated. 'Nuff said.
Sparco Tide gloves: Absolutely awesome. Incredible wheel feedback, tremendous grip.
Sabelt racing shoes: They fit. Great pedal feel, however also great pebble feel, if you wander around the paddock in them.

im more of an fun track day guy than a competitive racer but here is what i normally put on when i do go out for some fun.

~simpson k10 large helmet - cheap and sa2010 certified, comes in black to match my jacket and gloves, just got it from OGracing.com for a great shipped price
~geforce balaclava - i sweat ALOT and it was cheap
~geforce single layer jacket - i sweat ALOT and it was left over from my drag racing days, need to get it updated as it is very, very old
~geforce g1 gloves - i have had 2 sets of these gloves and i really like them, but they do wear out very fast...
~Gap jeans - they were cheaper than most other jeans and come in great sizes, 36-38 waist x 30 length, regular cut.
~addidas shell toe originals - white, with black stripe, flat sole and squishy for my big foot and most tech guys get a laugh when i try to explain how well they work

i dont think i could ever wear a full suit, i give a round of applause to everyone who does. i would either get a wedgie every 10 min or i would pass out since i would probably not run a cool suit.

Being a neophyte, I can't add much, and I hope my question isn't considered a thread hijack.
Helmet is an Impact Wizard SA2010 (XL for my swelled head). $300, Made in USA, I decided to get patriotic. Other than that the only other "race" specific gear I've gotten are Simpson Elite gloves. They were closeout from Speedway and I needed them ASAP, as much because HPDE this weekend is going to be coooold as for any other reason. I guess I'll look cool too.
Anyway, these suckers are slippery. There is leather in the palms, but fingers are just nomex. Any ol' pro tips to get them a little more tacky? Will a few washings help? Or just time/sweat? I presume George Brett brand pine tar isn't a good idea.

My brother has a cool shirt of some sort. He ran the 24 hours of Lemons at NJMSP the April 14th weekend, driving the anchor leg of the winning car actually, but to quote him a cool shirt is "money" It was summer like warm that weekend in NJ.

exactly what i was looking for , what size tank do you use for the cool suit and how do you have it mounted? i will look into the rest of the equipment you are using.

I'm going to give a huge +1 to the Sparco Tide gloves. I didn't pay retail, which is high, but I wouldn't hesitate to do it once this set wears out. They have CRAZY grip. Seriously, I was very skeptical until I tried SGDave's out - sick, just sick grip and feel; I had to have a pair.

Fortunately, I got mine for 1/2 price. =)

13 quart, and in the CMC car ('94 Mustang) we've got it where the passenger seat would go. In my S197, I'm going to mount it in the trunk somewhere, probably on the passenger-side, on top of the frame stub, depending on how the corner-weighting winds up. If you buy one, make sure you get the one with the timer! Instead of just running full-bore, it turns on and off (variable) to extend the cooling time, and to keep you cooler towards the end of your stint. The hot ticket is to freeze a half-dozen or so plastic milk jugs full of water, and just swap those out on driver changes, rather than trying to scoop out water to make room for more ice.

I installed my Cool Shirt reservoir behind the passenger seat using the two rear seat mounting bolts. The support is made from slotted angle iron from a hardware store and it fits under the seat frame. The reservoir pump then runs off the auxiliary power output in the rear console.

No pix, but if the engine's done by next weekend, I'll take some at the track. HERE is the system that I use.
