Ok my best run was 13.495 @ 104.22 MPH, 2.097 60 ft, 8.755 @82.03 1/8th(no burn out). This was after about 4 runs, so heat soak had set in. I had the quickest s197 time, which I was proud of. The 2 other s197 had the same mods as mine plus off road x pipes and cmdp. one ran a best of 13.54 but his MPH was 106.

My best 60ft time was 1.91 against an 03 Z06 which I pulled 1 1/2 car lengths on, but guess what, as I watched in euphoria his headlights in my mirror, I missed second gear. I was very pissed at myself for that attention lapse. What do you think I could have pulled off that 1.91? This was also with a small burn out.

Some of the problems I had were serious wheel hop while attempting a burnout and heat soak. the car seemed pretty incosistent. out of the 10 runs most were 13.6-13.7.

Do I need a driveshaft loop to run drag radials? I might get tires as my next mod. All the power in the world means nothing if you cannot hook. I learned this first hand tonight.

For that z06 run some say that every dropped 1/10 in the 60'= 2/10 in the 1/4mi. so you looking at maybe a 13.2. As for the DS loop, I think the rule is yes for slicks (and if you run 9's on street tires).

Ok. then I'm happy with it. I know the car is capable of 13.2x's with a better driver. Even though I didn t make the run, I have a slip to prove 1.9x 60' times on street tires and stock suspension. This thing was pulling so hard on the top end. I used to own a 97 GT, and let me tell you, it felt so good to beat up on an LS1 camaro. One particular Camaro was a 99 convert with catback, and cai, I bet him by like 1/2 a second. Will lower control arms help with the wheel hop during burnouts? I need the 'driver mod' seriously. lol

dude...On street tires those are nice runs. A 2.0 60' is what most strive for, anything lower and you can seriously launch that car! What are you mods? It sounds like you can hit 12's no problem with tires

Thanks. Mods are in sig. Ok, I didn't know that. So the 2.0's are good for street tires and that 1.91 was great. There is one more open test and tune this year. I prolly won't have the drag radials by then, but I can for sure at least have the LCA's. So Ill pick them up this weekend and just try to improve on what I have until next spring. I'll just set a goal for next time to reproduce the 1.91 run. If I can do that, I'll be happy for now.

Damn...How long have ya been racing? I'm super excited when I cut a 2.2 and my goals are 13.4 on street tires and 12's with dr's. :( Driver mod eh? I just need more practice I guess and new tires ( the stock P235's are almost bald, lol). I'm kinda new at this stuff.

O yeah, one last Q..Auto or manual?

That was my first time ever racing at a drag strip. This car is a manual. The first mustang I had, an 88 GT was a manual but my 97 was an auto. I got those times by doing a small hopping burnout, launching by slipping the clutch in at 5500 and powershifting 1-2. I can pretty much duplicate the 2.0 everytime, but I want that 1.91 back big time!

Nice, I'm trying to save my clutch by dropping it at only 2k but I can't get traction in 1st or 2nd gear. I basically have to granny shift 2nd so I dont spin? I can trap 105 but can't get under a 13.5

I don't think the 5k launch is that hard on it really. Basically I just slip it in like I would from a traffic light, just at a higher RPM. Now the powershifts are probably hard on it, but they make a huge difference.

Get some tires and get that power to stick! Stock tires spin too much.
LCAs will help your wheel hop go away.
Your results will improve as you learn to drive it down the track, too.

My best time on the stock Pirelli tires was a 1.85 60' with a 13.1 1/4. It was a fluke, but with some practice on the 4/5k holeshots, I was pulling 1.89 - 1.91 all the time. Once I broke 300 rwhp, the street tires (even some wider 285's) just couldn't hold it.

You need to power shift and heat the tires up. The stock Pirelli M&S tires love heat.

You have to do the control arms to stop the hop.

Good luck chasing numbers... :popcorneat:

DR's...DR's...DR's...

Slipping the clutch at 5k is bad. Sure, on street tires you can get away with it for a season, but if you do that with DR's or slicks you will toast the clutch fast. Found that out first hand.

One other tip... staging as shallow as you can will improve the 60-foot time (as well as the ET) by a few hundredths.

^ so you are saying stage just enough to turn the light on and stop?

OK. So are you slipping it at 4-5k or dumping it? I guess I need to start saving my beans for a new clutch....lol

marcspaz - How do you like the satge 2 cams? Are they worth it to try? I would like to do satge 2's and JBA Shorties one of these days.

Also, what is gas mileage like with the 4.10's? If I can still get over 15mpg mixed I would get them.

Most of the time (on the stock clutch) I dump it at 4k-5k. I have 35k miles and 120+ races on the stock clutch and it is still holding strong.

If you do slip the clutch, the car may pull a slightly better 60', but you will be doing a clutch after a few days of racing. The 10th you pick up is not worth it. If you are a Pro-Stick heads-up racer and you make a few mil a year racing, you don't mind changing it every race day...LOL

The shorties are worthless. I had shorties and picked up zero HP on the dyno.

Now the cams are great! I was tuning for performace, not sound, so you don't get the lobing sound. I did get a suprising amount of rwhp from them. About 20 at the wheels.

I got the XFI Stage 2 cause I plan on adding FI, so I didn't pick up as much as if I got a cam tuned for NA. Once I do put the FI on, it should be about 40 rwhp gain compared to not having the cams...which is very cool.

Just get the right cam for what your build plans are and you will be very happy with them. The install was great too. It only took about 4 hours.

Right now, with all of the mods I have, with no AC (cooler months) I get about 19+. When I run the AC I get about 16-17 mpg. Thos numbers are mostly city driving too. I went on a 400 mile trip on the highway and got about 22mpg.

The trick is having a good tune and keeping your foot out of it. Even when I have the AC on and I'm driving like an ass, I still get 14.5+ mpg.
