Well, think ahead to what you WILL be making. You're installing the Nitrous kit right? Make a guesstimate!
Correct the power level you plan to get to can make a real difference. I have been from the stock 3.55 to 3.73 then 4.10 then 3.73 again and now thinking of 3.55 again, so think long and hard unless you swap the gears yourself then buy my 4.10 and ck them out . LOL!

IMO 4.10 are to much for an auto car
I totally disagree. There are many 4.10s + autos running in the 10s. The only reason I would switch to 3.73s is if I was trapping over 135mph. But at 128-130, they are just right.

Don is right, especially if you run a large diameter wheel. A larger diameter wheel will effectively make your gear ratio taller (higher gear lower number). In some cases a 28" tire can take 4.10s to an effective 3.90 ratio.

Hope this helps.

So what would be the best gear for a TS car with 28" tires. ( I am making 484rwhp, 469rwtq)

I have 3.55's right now and cant see swapping for a set of 3.73's.

Problem is I want to be able to hook up 1rst and second as much as possible, but I feel the car is could use more gear in 3rd or 4th.

I am torn between getting 4.10's, or just keeping the 3.55's, and when I have to rebuild the rear, get a tru trac and 3.73's since I am in there anyway.

Thanks,

If ur a tool you deserve fire!
BUT, I do plan on going turbo, and w/ my TR6060 gearing will go with a 3.73 or 3.90.

Again, unless your getting the turbo next month... get some fun gears and enjoy your damn car...

it is just a damn car.... drive it!

Dont save it... someone will steal it, wreck it...

Me and ron have a tr-6060 with 4.10's we wouldn't go any other way point end of discussion. with the tr-6060 your first and 2nd gears are much longer. With 4.10's you wont get full boost in 1st but hell you wont either with 3.55's. with 4.10's you will have higher acceleration than with the 3.55's. Also having a two step helps you to build boost from the hole :).

TR6060 w/ 4.56's n/a, the 4.10's are VERY long with this train... when I upgraded, even though I installed the 4.10's, I recounted teeth to confirm b/c 'felt' like 3.55's w/ 3650.

Ron doesn't have 4.10s

and you don't have a 6060 :moon2:
Ahem... last I checked, this thread was about "what gears for an auto trans". So any discussion of 6060 or 3650 is of no value.

Ok lost here. I know the 3650 is the stick shift stocker. What is the 6060? I would have to guess a built up after market auto? BTW I am porb going to end up with the 4.10s
