Looking for some information here....Im shopping around for a new 5.0. I sold my 2011 with mt82 after a few trips to Ford with numerous trans issues (and a 300 mile trip with only 2nd and 5th) That said im planning on going A6 this time. This car however, is going to be for my daily commute, 55 mile round trip with about 20 miles being 60mph or so, 5 days a week. Im going to drive this in winter quite a bit as well (will be using blizzaks for that unless super deep snow in which ill drive my truck). This car will have SCT, JLT, and possibly o/r X. I have heard that the auto's really like a gear swap...mostly 4.10 to 4.30. Anybody with an A6 with the gears...would you recommend it for what im looking for? How much of an effect did it have on your fuel economy? Im sure Ill loose some mileage, but dont wanna loose a lot! Thanks in advance. -Mike

*For the record: My 12' regal gs m6 4 cylinder 300hp only gets avg of 22mpg on my commute which is about what my 11 gt got on the same commute. The reason im going to a mustang for daily driving.

The 4.10s were great man. But I started making more power and dialing in the tune better and the car wanted to shift into fifth gear before the 1320. Ive only driven the car 1 day with the 3.55s (its not my dd) but so far I like them a lot.

Keep me posted on the 3.55s once you start driving it more.

Depends on what you are going to do with the car.....what are YOUR goals?

Daily driver, still fun, and somewhat quick. Street tires and still low 12's. Keeping in mind the 55mile comute everyday. My 11' was just driven in nice weather and I had to have another car to drive everyday. I enjoyed the mustang but as I already have one that rarely leaves the garage Id like to be able to enjoy it everyday without eliminating all the comforts.

Low 12's shouldn't be a problem. I ran a 12.43 @ 113 MPH, with just a 93 octane tune, all else being factory, as delivered, and 1.92 60 foot times, on the same factory tires, and factory airbox. WBT has a handle on how to get the auto's to run some sweet times.

As WBT posted 3.31's are the ticket especially for a N/A car. 4.10's or 4.30's? No thanks. I personally like my 3.15's. The 1st gear in these autos are 4.17's. Plenty to get you out of the hole. It's 2nd gear that really drops off. I would get a good tune and see how the 3.15's feel for you. Especially on a daily driver. You might be pleasantly surprised.

Granted I have never owned a car with over 400 HP before, but every vechile I have ever owned before the Mustang has had 3.55-4.10 gears in it except my first car in high school that had 2.73. Anyway, I thought when I ordered my GT back in June I was going to hate the auto 3.15s and would want to regear it right away. But because of how the tranny is geared, am happy so far with the 3.15s. And 1st gear the car gets out of the hole fast. And highway all day I get 26. City is 16.5-18 depending on how much fun am having with the car

I appreciate all the feedback! Gives me a lot to think about. In the past I have run 3.73, 4.10, 4.56 gears...but never on my daily car. I like the s197 platform quite a bit, and for once wanna enjoy something without cutting it up and making it ride like total s#!t. These are great cars!

+1. I drove a 2013 to 11.96@118 a couple of weeks ago with an O/R x-pipe, tune, alum. D/S and a tire in 1,300' DA. Stock 3.15 gear.

What size stall? How did the stall effect your gas mileage? I know thats really not what your worried about when you start modding.

Oh hell no it matters. It's my DD. honestly it's all on the tune. I have a 3200 circle D stage 2C and 3.15's. on the BBR tune, I got 14.2 avg city/highway. Ken B from Lund got me dialed in. Besides a night and difference in every way, MPG's went up to 16.2 avg city/highway. Plus it's quieter lol.

I've been debating gears, I had 4.10's in my auto Mach and loved them! Not sure what to do in the 5.0. If I plan to do boss intake and longtubes, shouldn't 4.10's even out the low end torque I lose with the intake?

Not thread jacking lol. Just getting some input since there are no other auto 5.0 gear threads

Thanks guys
