bugs in rebuild- how much is tune related?

Build = forged bottom end. NOT stroked. so bottome end is stronger but not build. I have been running a live stream data on the car and here's what I've got..

A rough idle at 1500 RPM's not there before 1500 and goes away around 1700-1800 almost feels like a misfire but not showing up in live data stream and no cel

Drivers side came keeps going retard, I replaced the phaser all ready. No CEL

Fuel trims all are all over the place but not huge jumps

Car actually runs good, sounds good feels healthy. What do you guys think.

I am running the BAMA tune from before the motor blew and I built this one. I am running the performance tune, I took the race tune out of it.

any ideas, suggestions , appreciated.

What was the build? It could be alot of things. A remote tune from lito would rule out the tune side of the equation.

Basically I reused my block, Manley Rods and 18cc Dish Pistons, Eagle Crank, everything else pretty much stock Stock heads, etc.

I don't understand how one does a remote tune.. I know that's stupid of me.

Datalogs are used for the tuning. The tuner sends you a tune and a livelink config file. You load the tune and do what the tuner needs done while datalogging with a laptop. Email the log back, tuner tweaks tune, repeat until it's done.

Yeah, I may contact him. However I don't think the cam timing on one side is a tune issue. I'm trying to get any doubts worked out as much as I can.

My brother is supervisor at the city garage and I hooked up to their scan tool. Ran live data streams through it and can watch all the parameters. Drivers side cam is going retarded while the passenger side is staying where it should. It's also picking up knock in the scan. I'm wondering if that isn't the new lifters though that haven't seated all teh way.

It's got me paranoid and scared lol

You can download live link from sctflash.com. With it you can datalog parameters like cam positions. They won't always be exactly the same or as commanded. I'm fairly certain the commanded value can also be datalogged.

so they do vary some? I know the phaser have like 60 degrees of timing built in them or something like that. I
I have live link, I'm just looking at realtime data on a scan tool compliments of the city rather than have to hook my laptop up.

What FI are you using with -18cc pistons? What compression were you running before that the Bama tune is made for?

Earl

I have a procharger that I'm selling, but planned on running at least 10 lbs of boost. Right now the motor is N/A. no blower, I wanted to get it running n/a first. The BAMA tune was on the stock motor /stock compression with bolt-ons. From my calculations the compression shouldn't have change that much from stock though. Maybe from 9.1 to 8.8 or something shouldn't be enough to make things that far off I would think?

Stock is 9.8:1, with that much dish you are around 9.0:1 on the new build.

Thanks, I for some reason was thinking stock was more like 9.3:1

how badly will this affect the tune though?

They are fully advanced at rest and can be retarded up to 60 degrees. Other than brief changes how much difference are you seeing between sides once it's settled in?

side seems to sit at 0 while the drivers side is jumping 10-12 It just doesn't make sense.

before it was throwing code p0018 and it was 20 degrees out. I changed the phaser and code is gone , but still by live stream both sides aren't equal. maybe I'm over worrying, but I would think both sides should be the same reguardless

Is it a steady 0 degrees? 10 degrees difference is too much unless it's very brief. If you had one cam phaser tooth off it would be 8.6 degrees iirc.

Edit: The vct housing have a screen in them that gets plugged sometimes and affects cam timing.

My pistons are -17cc and the comp is 8.6:1 on stock stroke, so yours are probably around 8.5:1.

yes one side is a steady 0, at idle and moves with engine advance etc. the other side is staying 10-12 constant. I wondered if the VCT could be bad, but I checked the voltages on them and the seem okay. However, I will check the screen and see if there's anything there.

lol- I get myself confused on compression. I knew it was pretty low though. THe car actually runs good though on motor even so. If I could just get all this little crap figured out. THe car is beating me up.. It's winning

stupid question but when reassembling the motor, could it be possible to be a tooth off on timing? Just a though, as its happened to me before.

^ I checked that twice when replacing the phaser. I'm not sure as of yet but no cel's yet so I'm just going with it for the moment.
