MT-82 shifting woes

The more you describe it, the more it sounds like transmission issues versus shifter issues.

I can also confirm the 2-3 shift is just as described.. heel of my hand and slight pressure upwards and she pops right into gear. I have yet to miss 3rd gear since installling the MGW. Every once in awhile I get locked out of 2nd but I attribute that to a 7600 rpm shift point and crappy clutch moreso the shifter.

Just as un update, I'd go back and change the title of my thread if I could. I think it should read MT-82 shifting woes. I've read about 70+ pages of that nightmare thread on the other forum before smoke started pouring out of my ears. Luckily, my problem isn't anywhere near as bad as most of what's posted there. I can't loose sleep over the whole thing. If it goes boom before the warranty is out, then I'll see what I can do then. If not, and it lasts a few years, the Magnum transmission might have to end up in there someday.

Thanks all for contributing. I don't think there's much else to add. I'm going to have the oil swapped, the clutch line replaced and I ordered the Whiteline bushing as well. Might be bandaids, but we'll see.

MT-82 shifting woes

I changed to BG Syncro Shift II and MGW. Will be installing the Clutch Line and making the fluid cylinder a remote setup with ATE Super Blue Fluid. The BG did help with cold crunch for me.

Last night on my way to the airport, as stupid as it sounds, I tried to basically approach shifting it as if I was driving the car for the first time, and actually found that it's a hell of a lot easier than I originally feared. This can be flamed as quite a stupid thing to say, but when the shifter was new, it was stiff, which isn't necessarily a bad thing until you add in the native notchy-ness of the transmission, then it's quite unpleasant.

Well, I realized that I had sort of ingrained into my habits a method of shifting that could accommodate that experience, even though, after time the stiffness went away. Basically, instead of trying to force the gears with an iron fist, like I had to earlier, I just went with it. I found it would do the very simple and clean 2-3 upshift and 4-5 upshift with just the flat of my palm pushing straight forward.

It still has it's basic shortcomings, there's no way to ever downshift below 3rd regardless of how slow you're going. My Brembo's have held up well for nearly 2 years without needing to be changed, just because I don't beat on them to slow the car down.
