The insurance adjuster came out this morning and measured the flooring damage. They're going to cover the cost to replace our entire flooring. Now we need to decide on the tile. The first three were our first choices. Went in looking for the dark brown wood looking tile. We liked the 12x24" tile look also for a completely different look in the house and kitchen.

Yesterday we picked out the lighter brown older wood look tile on the far right. Any thoughts????? We're stuck

With white cabinets I would def go with a darker color. I like the dark brown, but the one on the right isn't bad either!

Just had to put up a new garage door opener last night. I had a Craftsman 1/2 hp from 2004. I think lightning killed it as I also had a GFCI in the garage that was fried. So I replaced it with a new unit and am planning on replacing all of them and all of the outlets. Anyways, I bought this Chamberlain from Lowes. The only crappy part of the whole situation was that the new garage door opners built after 2011 have what is called Security 2.0+. This Security 2.0+ does not work with Homelink or Car2U devices unless 2013+ MY. The only way to get them to work is to purchase a repeater for each brand transmitter you have. In my case, I have a Homelink in my wife's car and a Car2U in my truck. Really lame. Homelink will charge you $7 for shipping and send you one for "free". Pretty good deal. Homelink answered the phone as Homelink / Chamberlain interestingly enough. Car2U will not give them to you and charge roughly $54 including shipping.

Garage

I wish I would have taken a before picture. When I bought the house 3 years ago, I inherited a garage full of make-shift shelving - imagine 2x4's running the width of the garage, with plywood shelves. At one point the shelving went up to the ceiling. Some shelves were only 12" tall, and the main shelf started at 4' tall on the left and went down the 3' tall on the right. Oh, and aside from that, the walls were empty. It's still a work in process, and I'm thinking that an industrial grade epoxy flooring might be next...

It's going to be nice to be able to get 2 cars in the garage in time for winter!

Decided on this tile we found that's a mix between the two tiles up top we liked. Getting a labor quote tonight and then we'll decide to lay the tile ourselves or pay for the labor. Should find out how much insurance is covering pretty soon also.

I'm debating trying to tackle my tile flooring by myself. Got a quote from a co-workers uncle who does tile work but is also unlicensed. I figured he'd give me a good deal. His quote came back at 2.70 per sq ft. Totaling $2,467 for just labor. About 920 or so sq ft off the top of my head. Way more than I expected. Going to wait and see how much exactly we're getting from the insurance company. Also going to check quotes with licensed contractors.


How difficult is laying tile flooring??
