I am about out of tread on my original tires, have 30k miles on them. Anyone know if thats about average tread life for the factory tires?

Anyways, Im looking for the best bang for the buck tires for all seasons. I would like long tread life but don't want to sacrifice too much performance. I have seen success stories online with people running 285s on factory brembos on all four corners. Is this a good idea for me? This is the first set of tires Ive actually cared what goes on the wheels ha. What do y'all advise??

285s sound way big for a stock wheel. Aren't they 9" wide?

I was going to go 285/40/19 on all 4 corners... the rears will be fine but TireRack raised concerns about the front... I still think they would fit but they may need a small spacer. there are a few members on here running 285's all the way around with no issues.

What's with wanting such a wide tire up front on these cars? All my other rwd cars, we (as in other forums) wanted skinnier front tires...(don't mean skinniest possible, but relative to the rear)

Yes... those are 19x9.

Brembo makes wheels?

For some reason, many people call the stock Mustang wheels Brembo wheels, if it is a Mustang that has the track pack including the Brembo brake.

Pretty fucking weird... but hey, as long as people know what ya mean, what else matters?

Brembo does own a company called Marchesini which does make wheels, but I doubt they make the track pack wheels. I think its just for bikes.

I should probably look it up myself, but I wonder if given the overwhelming impact tires have on braking performance is the wider tire with thereby reduced contact pressure better than a slightly narrower tire with its higher contact area pressure. And where is the tipping point where wider or narrower is better?

I think it really depends on the car and the set-up. Many RWD cars benefit from wider rear tires, especially mid-engined ones. Front-engined ones can go either way, Corvettes benefit from wider rear tires, but Mustangs don't always. I just think wider rear tires look better.

If I do go 285 read and 255 front how much sooner would I have to replace the tires since rotating them won't be possible?

285 on a 9 is past the point of getting more tire on the ground. I doubt you'd see much increase of rubber on ground vs. a 275, or even a 265.

Best all-around, treadlife/performance/price....take a look at Continental ExtremeContact DW's- they come in 255/40/19 (stock) and 275/40/19. Don't stagger them though- run square so you can rotate. If you need to drive in the snow, try the ExtremeContact DWS. I haven't used either but they're apparently popular and well-liked.

I haven't run the DWS on my Mustang yet but had them on my Zephyr and it made a HUGE difference over the factory Michelins. The DWS is what I was going to go with as we get snow in NE.

I had DWS on my 350z, awesome tires for being all seasons. They were very quiet and comfortable as well.

As far as rotating them I'm not interested in that.

I am one of the folks running 285's on the stock "Brembo package" wheels. I have Bridgestone Pole Position S-04's, 285-35/19 at all four corners. It's a squeeze on the wheels, but they fit. Going to 35 aspect ratio keeps them close to stock overall height. Way, way better than the OEM Pirellis (those suck). I have had no fitment issue with them at all, and have run them in a few autocrosses and a track day.

BTW, 30k out of the OEM tires is great.

I've been running these on my BBP wheels for a little over a year:

http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires...wall=Blackwall&partnum=74WR9RE970PP&tab=Sizes

It's 10mm narrower than what you're considering, but still a pretty wide tire compared to the oem tires. No issues with rubbing on steeda sport springs

They have been great tires; quiet, don't tramline, excellent traction in cold and wet, and showing very little wear so far (400TW)

The only two negatives for me is that they are directional so I only can rotate front/back, which will probably shorten the life since I run -1.5 camber, and gas mileage dropped a few mpg. For the price though I'd buy another set when these are done.
