Wouldn't it be some sh** if it was ploy by Ford... know they'll get increased sales from new model/IRS so they bulk it up, in few years they go the aluminum route with it and wa-la drop 500lbs because they porked the original release up, and wham another sales boom

GT Premium is 250lbs heavier than predecessor.

The 2015 Mustang was also engineered to meet harsher roof-crush standards, so that reinforced structure also adds pounds to the scales.

Volume models equipped with a V6 or the EcoBoost turbocharged four-cylinder engine are likely to be around 50 to 70 pounds heavier than this year’s model, while a base GT will gain around 170 pounds.

I can't say that I am too surprised since now the car is a universal platform that has to be made for the European market which has different regulations than US, plus the IRS.

My buddy told me Road & Track is reporting a weight gain as well. From 50 pounds more on a stripper Ecoboost, to 170 pounds on a base GT, to 250 pounds more on a loaded GT...

Ford said they needed to do aluminum on the F-150 for CAFE reasons. There was no need on the niche Mustang. The said the next SVT Mustang will probably use some carbon fiber though...

Correction - 2013-14 Mustang: Length is 188.2"

Yes you will. Go drive a Challenger SRT-8 and you will see. They feel huge and the experience is just not the same.
