Can you do a clutch job on jackstands?

How are you guys able to jack the car so high on the stands in the first place?

Do I need a better jack that goes higher? And you are doing it at a corner at a time?

If you look at the picture I posted, and at the floor jack in the front of the car, you can see some 2x4's. I nailed 4 of them together to make an extension that's 7" high.

So, I jack up the car to the max height of the jack, place jack stands, lower jack, insert extension, jack up again, and put the jack stands on the wooden plates.

I use ramps on the rear and stands on the front. The transmission doesn't have to come out. It only has to be moved out of the way. I would just leave it on the jack and roll it back and over a few feet.

That's really smart. One thing that made it hard on me was it not being high enough.

Couple have mentioned access to the top two bolts on the bell. They likely do not know you have a DOB manifold. You will be lucky to say the least to get to those two bolts with the manifold on. I always access those two from below which is an absolute pita. Gear wrench.. and a painfully slow process for two freggin bolts. The BMR k-member makes it SOOO much easier to get to everything tho and now I can get to them with little effort (which is good cause my tranny is out so damn much).

It is a pita to remove the DOB manifold but not a deal breaker if you had to. Would likely take less time to just get to those bolts from below if you are limber.

I have a high lift floor jack and some rediculous huge jack stands. Good investment. Tranny jack is a must imo.. but you will need the car pretty high to use one

Heard you get like a 3-4 foot extension to get to the two top bolts with ease from under the car.

Same way I did it. Works like a dream if your solo. Get yourself some 6 ton jack stands for the frontward of the car and some 3 ton for the rear. I've done the trans 3 times now and it's become second nature... Also, you will want to grind the ear tabs that the sensor harness mounts to on the trans. They are super annoying to get the trans back up. I cut those bastards off with a cutoff wheel and "massaged" my floor board a bit to make the install a little easier. The top two bolts are a pain, more so because you can't see them. You'll probably have to use the "feel" method to slip the socket on and then your extension. A long extension is ideal, of the ghetto series of extensions work also. Get an elbow/u-joint extension also. Not the crappy chrome ones either, get yourself a "impact" style. I haven't tried them with the dob but I was able to get the top two with a whipple on. The trick was to take the battery and tray out. Then get both bolts from the passenger side. It was tight but doable.

I've done two in my garage on my friends cars. As long as you have someone with the nuts to stabilize the trans, you're good to go.
