Yep, three plugs per side in the "meatiest" parts.

Would be a real chore to do with the housing in the car, but probably could be done.

You'd want to remove all the guts too, lots of shavings from drilling and tapping.

Just drill and tap until the plugs torque down flush.

welding is not enuff, che brace or pinning the axle are the only options for me after this.......

this happened last night, weld broke at axle tube and allowed axle tube to twist cutting the slick @ 110 mph......

That wasn't your car, was it? Looks like the welder didn't get any penetration on the pumpkin.

Wow that is scary, hope the driver was ok... I'm in this boat right now just bent the stock axles and looking to be proactive.
And time frame on the BMR brace?

No it was not mine but was a friend of mine. I saw it happen in person. He walked a way with only scrapes and bruises

That is just horrible. I hate seeing things like this happen.

Is it a Boss 302, with BMR stickers on the strut towers?

What is his name?

From what I can tell, it's a Procharged CS with a Boss manifold.

That looks like a pretty bad weld. The weld should have penetration and that weld looks like it was a cold weld, only superficial with no penetration.

A good weld will fuse both metals making it one piece and should not break. Also it is hard to weld into cast, must cast weld to other metals is usually braze welding which is another superficial type of weld.

So, after watching the other video multiple times, and seeing this pic of the break, I disagree with what is said to have happened. I know you know the guy, and I know he's saying what possibly happened, but I disagree with that after seeing these things.

The break at the weld in the above picture looks like a break from an impact, not a rotational break. The "pin" is still in place, and the forward part of the axle tube appears to be still in place. This is simply my observation from what I can see in the pic.

In the other video of the wreck (not the one shown above), it looks as though the rearend locked up, or that he possibly hit 2nd instead of 4th, or 3rd instead of 5th.

I'm not trying to argue, or call anyone a liar or anything like that. I just am seeing things here that don't make sense. Can you get more pics? I'd like to see pics of the tire, the left side of the car, more pics of the break at the weld (the front part too), and possibly the lower control arm relocation bracket.

Here is the video I'm basing my opinion from:

It's a black '13. Mitchell Pope.

When I saw that video earlier I had some of the same thoughts. Something moved right on the starting line, if not previously. The car was driving sideways all the way down.

This is the first time I've seen the image of the weld. Interesting thing there is that it doesn't appear to have rotated, and if the axle tube didn't rotate, that can't be the cause of the tire rubbing the car. Unless someone knows of a case where an axle tube rotated and then somehow returned to the original position, which certainly doesn't seem likely.

Saw this on FB a little bit ago. Glad you are ok. Your poor wife sounded scared out of her mind.

That's nuts! glad he's OK.
If the axle tube was going to let go wouldn't it let go at launch?
Also doesn't look like it rotated at all, the weld still looks line up with the little grooves.
