Ok guys i've got a 2 month old 08 GT I just got. I got the car from a local dealer who got the car on a dealer trade. It was dirty when i first looked at it, but was assured the the paint guy inspected it and all was fine when i picked it up that night and it was cleaned up. Next day right away i noted a foot long scratch on the passenger door, back over to the dealer and they took it in a buffed it out, again paint guy said car has perfect paint. A week later was the first time I washed it and when i took the microfiber cloth over the roof i noted that it kinda stuck in one spot. After i dried the car i found that there was an acid etch spot, where the acid had gone through the clear, through the paint and into the black under primer. The hand wash just lifted the paint right out. Took the car back over and they said no problem bring in back in this summer and we'll touch up that spot. Today was the first REALLY nice sunny day and after washing the car i REALLY inspected it. There are about 50 SPOTS where the paint is spidered and the primer is showing on the trunk lid, spoiler, hood, roof and quarters. I'M PISSED. Had my neighbor over who is a paint man and he said whole car needs repaint. what am i supposed to do? I got this NEW car so that i wouldn't have to deal with this. Anything FORD can do? I don't want a repaint thats the problem, If i could i'd just trade up for a gt500. DO I HAVE ANY LEGS TO STAND ON HERE???? btw car now has 2800 miles and the dealer knew about the issue at 700, but did not inspect the car.

sorry for the rant
-mike
Car also has a nasty grind going into 3rd gear on cold mornings, i work 12's so getting back over to the dealer to deal with that has yet to happen

Talk to the service manager. Skip the service advisor all together..TEll him you want the Ford service rep to come and inspect the paint..Im sure they will re-paint it for you..

thats the problem i DON'T want a repaint. If i wanted to paint a car i would have just got a used one. Also there is going to be a diminished value if i ever try to sell it. At this point i'm not sure what i want, but do know that a repaint on a NEW car is NOT acceptable to me.

I hear ya, but they are going to want the opportunity to fix it. They wont go lemon on it, you will have to go to the dmv and start a lawsuit..Its been too long for the sales dept. to unwind the deal..They may try and help you alittle to trade it in, but its going to cost you..

I work 12's next 4 days so i won't be able to go to the dealer until monday. I'm calling tomorrow and want the service manager and ford rep there on monday when i get there. I just called my closest friend who happens to be a lawyer who specializes in antique car fraud. He said that ford needs to make it right, but if they/we can not come to an agreeable situation then there are "ways" to persuade them. we'll see i guess. thanks for the response, i'll keep ya updated

Good luck..Just a word of advice..try and keep it calm and cool, you will get farther with them that way. I run a Ford/Saab dealership, and I hate when people just scream and bitch. When they talk to me like a human being with respect, I go above and beyond for them..:beerdrink:

Sticker was 31800, but with all the rebates i only paid 23700, which i think was a great deal. car is loaded with everything cept nav, vista blue with black primer spot custom paint:LMAO:

i just went through a big ordeal with ford on my 07 f250 ( ended up getting lemon lawed ) anyway here is the number to ford's customer relations department 1-800-392-3673 , now as stated above your best bet is to be reasonable with the dealership as they can either really help you out or make it hell TRUST ME , i went straight to the sales manager/owner and talked to him he did what he could to help and went above and beyond but i wasn't a ass and went in like a 2 year old .....

no matter what you will take a hit on trade so you might as well let them atleast paint it first , and as stedman stated the dealership has to be allowed to make it right before going over there head

now i know exactly how you feel i bought a 53,000 07 f250 fully loaded and the first night when i drove it home the starter fried and kooked a shitload of the wireing ......yep welcome to my world lmao all in all the truck went into the shop 12-13 times total within a year and it only had right at 9k miles on it when i ditched it 13 months after i bought it

Sorry I dissagree with all these recommendations. I would want them to take the car completely back at their loss. If you want to trade it up they should credit you back completely. I would definately retain an attorney. If youre going to lose 1000s on the deal anyway, i would start by losing the first 1000 to a retained attorney to fight for you. If you recognized the problem right away, and they told you to wait, then they did it with the intention of getting beyond the point of no return (statute of limitations) on the sale. The advice of an attorney may turn out to be worth its weight... Furthermore, starting calm and collected is fine, but if it doesnt go to your satisfaction, getting loud sometimes works. Like Steedman said, dealership managers hate when people get loud, so that may be the way to get the satisfaction you need. Dealerships are hurtung for sales, and someone in the lobby talking very loudly to management about buying a supposed "new" car with paint falling off after 700 miles, would probably scare a potential customer away. Furthermore, I would look into the lemon law becasue I am pretty sure there are very specific citings about paint. But I am no attorney, and Steedman may have better insight into that.

Also keep in mind that the owner of the dealership doesnt really represent ford. He is a private owner with HIS best interest in mind, not Fords. Calling Ford directly may help too.

whats funny is one of my best friends is an attorney that deals with vehicle fraud, like if you buy a 69 shelby, but find out its a replica. I called him already and we are figuring out the best course of action. I would be MORE than happy if i got my 23700 back, they keep the tax and crap, and they find me a gt500 for another gt.

I agree that talking to an attorney wont hurt, but unless the dealer is given a chance to make it right, you wont get far..If you go in there threatening to sue and all that, they will tell you to get in line...Ford Motor will almost always side with the dealer, and vise versa..The time, energy and $$ you will spend going to the DMV, then to court at some point way in the future is not woth it imo..Now, what Ford Motor will do, is make sure that the dealer gets it repainted professionally, and will inspect the finished product if you request it.

Most Ford dealers owners/dealer principals wont give a damn what Ford says if it means its going to cost them $$$...

That is an accurate estimate..I just put $17,500 on a loaded 07 GT auto premium with 6,000 miles..

he's right repainting a car KILLS it value
I wont buy a repainted car, and if you have to sell a car to carmax, they number one value killer is how much of the car was repainted.

I have a pretty good idea-- have NOT THE DEALER, but a proffessional restorer paint it (at the dealer's expense).

Have like 6 coats of paint and 8 coats of clear coat put on. That sucker would pop like none other. It would be one of a kind, and it would be free to you if they agreed to it.

Thats actually not a terrible idea as long as you could pick the shop, and get a super high quality shop and paint job. Then you could get a really nice unique color.
