he's right repainting a car KILLS it value
I wont buy a repainted car, and if you have to sell a car to carmax, they number one value killer is how much of the car was repainted.

This happen to me when I purchased a new 97' F250 from Ford. 3 Years later I go to trade in the truck and find out the value is crap because the truck was damaged in transport when I picked it up and they had to respray the hood. It hurt the value of the trade considerably. I called the Ford customer service like Freak did and they sent me an incentive check for the difference on a new truck. In my situation I waited to hear the dealer out and when they wouldn't budge on their position I called Ford directly. Had to do the typical let me talk to your boss line about 3 times and finally got it taken care of. Lawyer wise I hope your buddy will work pro-bono cause if he threatens to sue you'll probably pay 23000 in attorney fees by the time Ford settles. Just keep it cool and professional it will all work out. Good Luck

This makes no sense to me. The stock paint is shit to begin with. So you repaint to the same standard and it goes down in value. Sounds like a reason a dealer would use just to try and scam you out of some cash. Logically, the car is no worse off, maybe better.

I got a lot of rock chip damage because the stock paint is soft as butter. My insurance company repainted a good portion of the car and now it's 100 times better. If I was buying a car and they seller mentioned it had recently been repainted, that would make me more inclined to buy it.

Just any industry tactic to screw you.

I disagree. It's a liability that they assume buying a car that has been repainted. Factory paint jobs aren't bad. Sure they have orange peel but that's to hide panel imperfections. Sure domestic car companies paint is on the soft side compared to European car mfgs. It doesn't mean it's bad though.

How many paint jobs have you seen that were botched by a independent body shop? I've seen a lot more than factory paint jobs that were botched. This isn't to say that there are shops out there that can do amazing paint jobs .. They are few and between though, IMO. I can easily say that there are many more botch shops than quality shops.

Ok guys i've got a 2 month old 08 GT I just got. I got the car from a local dealer who got the car on a dealer trade. It was dirty when i first looked at it, but was assured the the paint guy inspected it and all was fine when i picked it up that night and it was cleaned up. Next day right away i noted a foot long scratch on the passenger door, back over to the dealer and they took it in a buffed it out, again paint guy said car has perfect paint. A week later was the first time I washed it and when i took the microfiber cloth over the roof i noted that it kinda stuck in one spot. After i dried the car i found that there was an acid etch spot, where the acid had gone through the clear, through the paint and into the black under primer. The hand wash just lifted the paint right out. Took the car back over and they said no problem bring in back in this summer and we'll touch up that spot. Today was the first REALLY nice sunny day and after washing the car i REALLY inspected it. There are about 50 SPOTS where the paint is spidered and the primer is showing on the trunk lid, spoiler, hood, roof and quarters. I'M PISSED. Had my neighbor over who is a paint man and he said whole car needs repaint. what am i supposed to do? I got this NEW car so that i wouldn't have to deal with this. Anything FORD can do? I don't want a repaint thats the problem, If i could i'd just trade up for a gt500. DO I HAVE ANY LEGS TO STAND ON HERE???? btw car now has 2800 miles and the dealer knew about the issue at 700, but did not inspect the car.

sorry for the rant
-mike
Car also has a nasty grind going into 3rd gear on cold mornings, i work 12's so getting back over to the dealer to deal with that has yet to happen

There all going to have their flaws... TR3650's are garbage. Start modding it and it wont matter so much if you scuff the paint.

yep same shit i got a "incentive check " but i must say work with your dealer at all costs believe me i was reasonable with them as they were with me and by doing so shit went real smooth and i even got invoice pricing on the stang for trade, which he didn't have to do along with giving me 4k over what every other dealer in town offered for my f250 so by the time i was done i ended up below invoice price and with cash in my pocket thats not even including the lawyer fee's ford had to fess up

So I was able to go to the dealer today for the first time and talk with the gm's. It was a GREAT experience, they were actually on my side, weird i know. anyways they told me i have 3 options at this point.

1. File a claim with the dipute settlement board. The best that could happen is that they will buy the car back for what i have into it, worst is they will deny the claim, at which point I skip to option 2 or 3. Problem is that it can take 4-6 weeks.

2. Trade up to an 2009 grabber orange gt on the lot that is priced at $32,210. They will give me $22,210 on my car, so i would owe $7000 plus ttl, and that is after the $3000 rebate. The other car they have is called the booze brothers mustang, the same booze brothers that have the drag car in every magazine, I believe his name is charlie booze jr. Sticker on that car is $42995, and they will give me $23500 for mine, so i'll owe $16500. The car has basically EVERY bolt on you can put on a gt, painted matte hood, looks exactly like a 69' mach. Like a shelby gt, but a BBR GT.

3. Have my car repainted with some painted on stripes. They would also sell me parts at cost if i wanted to upgrade to brembo brakes or even make the car into a gt500 clone.

So those are the options at this time. Please make a comment and let me know what you think. It took me 3 months of looking and researching before i pulled the trigger on my car. Now with the current $3000 off rebates only lasting until the end of march i only have about 1 week to decide.

Thanks again for all the help thus far.

I would say if you really like your car, then let them re-paint it and paint on the stripes for free. If your not in love with your car, then I might jump on the G.O. GT with only $7,000 out of your pocket. And if you take the G.O., stil try and work them for some free stuff..painted stripes maybe, if you like stripes. Or maybe some parts credit so you can put it towards some GT500 brakes or something..good luck. And Im glad to here the General Manager respected you and is willing to help out. We are not all assholes..:thumb:

Good luck..Just a word of advice..try and keep it calm and cool, you will get farther with them that way. I run a Ford/Saab dealership, and I hate when people just scream and bitch. When they talk to me like a human being with respect, I go above and beyond for them..:beerdrink:

that sounds like solid advice for dealing with anyone, in almost any situation. :thumb:
