So after fixing the side skirt and making the car whole and pretty again...it happened again on Sunday during the Street King event. sigh

Driver side tire once again caught the edge of the fender well and shredded itself...pretty bad this time around. Not too much damage to the body though.

But the tire itself is toast... Never realized the tread on drag radials were layers on top of layers. Like a biscuit. lol

So the verdict!!?? DO NOT GET 29" TIRES!!! They are just too damn big!!

I will get seeking out some smaller tires in the 27.6" - 27.7 range.
The only ones I have found are:

-Nitto 555R 305/40/18 (27.72")
-MT ET Street S/S 305/40/18 (27.6")

Just not sure which one would provide better traction/compound.

Ouch...sorry to hear about that. Neither tire you mentioned is going to stick really well, but I would go with the M/T S/S if you're looking for more aggressive grip.

Really?? :sad72:
I was hoping the M/T S/S or the Nitto were going to be similar...especially if I could lower the tire pressures.

Here are some better pictures of the damage:

I was gonna suggest a 305-40-18. Ok, Nitto makes a better one... the NT-05R.... but the damned things only comes in 285-40-18 or 305-45-18...... and also 315-40-18..which is 28.03" tall... but requires a 10.5- (11.0) - 12.5 rim.

The NT-05R is what Bruce H uses. tread wear rating of zero.

If adjustable LCA's are used, then your pinion angle will change..... no big deal if you also have an adjustable UCA.

The ideal setup would be adj lca's and uca...and dedicated rims + tires for drag racing. Then swap to your NT-01's for the rest of the time.

I do have dedicated drag wheels...but they have to be 18" wheels...I've got big brakes in the rear.

FWIW - I suspect your stock LCAs are contributing to this issue

So my options seem like between these tires:

MT ET Street SS: 305/40/18 (overall dia: 27.6)
Nitto 555R: 305/40/18 (overall dia: 27.72)

DD tires (overall dia: 26.7)
MT ET Street R (overall dia: 29)

The MT ET Street SS are more expensive than the larger ET Street Rs... What the??
Street SS 305/40/18: $365
Street R 305/45/18: $328

So I just got done ordering more parts for the car...
New springs and new adjustable lower control arms.

I think if I can square the rear axle and move it away from the forward wheel gap/skirt I can run the big drag tires. I also got new springs because I am very unhappy with my Steeda Sports. I feel they are way too soft in the rear. I can no longer carry passengers and I bottom out on deep dips on the highway.

With stiffer springs that will slightly increase my ride height (potentially), stiffer springs, and a squared axle...I may be able to use the 305/45/18 Street Rs.

More to come!!

bump - whatever happened, this sounded expensive.

I was thinking of getting another pair of 18x10 AMR cheap ass wheels and putting the ET Street 305/45's on them. It's either this or a bias ply full drag setup with skinnies.

I have a 5 year old set of the ET Streets 305/45/18 mounted on 18x10 Roush wheels and have not had any rub issues shown in this thread. I have the Roush Sport Suspension (not sure of drop) and have plenty of clearance.

Same tire as used on the 2012 Roush Track Practice Development car.
not sure whatever happened to that project.....
