Ron, I can't see your pictures cause I am at work. However if the piece that is broken off is the piece that retains the bottom of the tensioner arm in place,it is a threaded dowel pin(threads into block, dowel pin where tensioner arm pivots.Ford part number YR3Z-6K282-AA

Ron,Just got home and checked your pics.It is what I stated in the above post.If that is all that happened and you didn't hammer the valves I think you may have dodged a bullet.Good luck!

Thanks Kent. I was looking for that part number. Im going to work on the timing today see if it jumped any, hopefully not

Thought i would add my two cents after reading this...

Sorry to hear about your troubles T Bird. Your car (up until now) has always given me hope that the CROOK Larry_H actually could make one block that worked right. How he ever became a vendor on MF's I will never know!

Here is what happened to my Larry_H Longblock:

http://www.modularfords.com/forums/showthread.php?t=117464

Larry refused to pay for anything and blamed Ford among other people.

We have a Stang member in Oman who fully paid for a built shortblock from Larry and never recieved it. He was told that Larry had to urgently leave for france to go teach Tai Kwon do and was going to be gone forever. He ripped him off completely of several thousand dollars.

If one of you went after him legally that would really be amazing and you would have our full support. If anyone knows where he lives too that would be great as I would love to go see how hot his karate skills really are face to face!!!!!!!

Ive payed close attention to your problems man. We all got had by Larry i think. Although my particular issue right now i cant see being his fault as we changed the oil pump to a correct one before the motor was ever put in. Im thinking jsut a bad oil pump atm. Ive got plenty of other stuff to blame him for and he owes me about $500

more bad news

there is minor debris in the oil filter itself, nothing much though so that part im not worried about. what i am worried about is the drivers side head threw a rocker and gouged up part of the cam.

Its hard to tell, how deep is the gauge? I'm by no means an expert or very knowledgeable but I would think lack of oil pressure could cause that damage, if say it was running with out oil getting onto the cam or rocker.

I posted this question in Dave's thread but I have to ask you Ron.........did you send Larry the balancer and flywheel you were going to use when he balanced the engine?

no i did not. He never asked and hell what did i know. I know nothing about building motors. He balanced everything and built the motor. The balancer and clutch/flywheel were installed after the motor was completed. We started with the 18% OD but i changed that out last summer to a standard sized IW crank pulley.

man this just sucks ass for you Ron. I am a bit worried about mine that I had built from him. We never did get the rings to seal on my motor from him. Every time I called he would tell me just keep running it and they will seal. Well they never did seal and I am looking at pulling it apart at the end of the year and getting it freshened up and start over again. What RPM's did you turn yours up too? I am shifting at 7000 rpm. What oil did you use and weight? I am still running Ford Motorcraft oil in a 5W20.

I shifted at 6400 but set rev limiter at 6800. I used 5w20 or 5w30 mobil one synthetic oil the entire time except for breskin which was 5w20 regular oil. how can you tell if the rings are sealed or not?

it vents out the passanger side cam cover alot. It also uses about 1 quart every 500 miles, I only have 1500 miles on new motor since last April. You can smell the oil coming from the filter of the PCV delete.

Mine did that too but it was overfilled. I also changed the angle of the breather and it stopped for the most part

Montreal Qc,
Hey Ron,

Does the rocker that popped out look and different than the rest color wise?
In the blurry pic it looks like it's blue at 12 o'clock as if it overheated.

Did you find the lifter that goes under it?

What brand of cams did your motor have in it?

no it looks exactly the same as the others. The lifter is still there. I can put the rocker back into place no problem. just slides back in

BBR stage 2 cams. Give me a call if you can

sorry it does NOT look like the others. all others look fine this one is colored. the bearing spins freely. Im thinking the cam rotating against it when it jumped off caused it to overheat perhaps.

I guess I was lucky, as my rings seem to have sealed just fine. I do use 10w-30 at the suggestion of Kevin@PMP.

Haha, you have a point. I don't track the car because I don't get that much opportunity in my defense though. I'm hopping to this year.

Just to chime in on the oil subject... I do track mine, in the most abusive manner possible: 20-40 minutes at a stretch, all between 3000-6500RPM, with relatively high G-forces being applied, laterally and longitudinally, for a good portion of that time... With 5w20, after about 10-12 minutes, I could see sagging oil pressure, and skyrocketing temps (280+). I switched to synthetic 10w40, picked up about 5PSI of pressure, and dropped temps a solid 20 degrees, with no evident pressure sags. Now that I have a cooler and Accusump in the system, life is good. Stock oil pan, and a NINE quart oil-change! 5w20 is fine for fuel economy, particularly CAFE, however, for any severe-duty application, 10w30 or 10w40 is strongly indicated.
