What is the function of the hood blanket?

Installed a boss 302 strut tower brace on '09 and looks like I'm one of the unluckies whose hood blanket touches on the brace and doesn't allow the hood to fully close without interfering.

I've seen in other threads some people will cut out a portion of the hood blanket beneath the hood scoop to help clear.

What is the purpose of that hood blanket and will I regret removing a portion of it?

Thanks,
Austin

This^^^^

And I've heard they are designed so that the plastic push pins melt and the blanket drops on the motor to smother fires.

I figure if I have an engine/car fire I want it to burn to the ground.

Sweet! Just removed that f'er... Much better.

Agreed, if that engine catches fire just let the mofo burn to the ground.

Thanks guys for the advice as usual!

Urban legend.

Only there to muffle the sound coming from the engine bay into the cabin.
