If you look at the specs of that tire for height and width you will have your answer. There also a tire guide here to. @Pentalab is the math wizard lol. I had a 295/45/20 with no rubbing, it was just tall and tire racks mistake. The size you listed pop up on tire rack fitment chart for our cars.

Are they going on that rim in the photo? They will actually be shorter in height and .2 in width.

Edited: added one that is a step down from what you have but has wide thread and only 27" tall. It in the middle.

Can you explain what you mean by "meaty"?

If you mean tire section width or possibly tread width, you can fit tires at least as wide as 305 on 11" wide wheels if the wheels have the right offset. My road course track tires measure about 300mm wide on the rims they're fitted to and they neither rub anywhere nor poke out past the sheetmetal.

How wide are your wheels? That will define the maximum width tire you should consider mounting on them.

If you mean sidewall height or profile, you're throwing away a whole inch (about 10 profile points) by going to 20's over 18's. 255/40-20's run about the same height as 255/50-18's.

If you mean sidewall 'bulge', that's a matter involving wheel width - and there are limits on how far you should squeeze a tire down on rims too narrow for it just to make a low-profile tire look like it's 1960 all over again.

@normpeterson I was hoping you would chime in on this. I knew you run 26.5 tall tire. 20" rims do seem to have limited tire selections.

I currently run 275/35/20 on 20x9.5" Roush Wheels on all 4 corners believe they are a 45 offset though....
I know the 18" Roush is a 45 offset but not sure on the 20"...
I also run a 305/45/18 Mickey Thompson ET Street on the rear on 18" Roush wheel with no problems.

Here are fitment guides from Apex Racing wheels show what will fit and what won't for square and staggered setups.... will help get you close

(pssst . . . they're shorter than that - both sets. 285/35-18's at 25.9" for the track set and 265/40-18's at 26.3" for the street :D )

20" rims do seem to have limited tire selections.
Your choices get crowded by the wheel taking up too much of the available room and limiting the tire size - and its rated load capacity. Can't go as tall on profile or any wider than you can on 18's. The price one pays for style, I guess.

no rubbing issues on my 305/30/20's on 10.5" wide rims with +45mm offset. I'm on the low side of approved fitment IAW Nitto 555G2 fitment specs. 11" as mentioned is nominal width for a 305/30 as mentioned above.

Lowered 1.5" as well and no "Joe Dirt" look. Tire wall protrudes maybe 1/8th inch. All tread is inside the quarter. See below...

275/xx on 10" wide rims is a pretty good place to be.

On 9's, 275's start to look pinched; on 11's (which is legitimately do-able) 275's are clearly stretched.

No, we are learning something valuable! I just learnned something this morning 50 is taller then the 35 or 30. I know there's a reason why everyone has a diameter (height) range that's idea for our cars. Gears, rim and tire play a roll but maybe thats just more for performance and not a truck tire look. This morning just added a missing puzzle piece for me. With lifting my truck and putting 35's or 315's it never mattered.

Taller side walls equals better ride quality in my opinion.
