Is it possible? TPMS

I picked up a set of 2016 wheels and tires for my wife's 07. I'm pretty sure I know the answer, but can the TPMS be reprogrammed to read the later model sensors. They are the same frequency?

I had to buy a new set when I installed my Ford Performance Track Pack Wheels. But it was worth it not to see that damn message everytime.

05-10 is one freq. 11-14 is another freq. 15+ is yet another freq.

On that note I am torn on which way to go. Technically I can get bands for 20" wheels from Ford and purchase new 07-09 tpms sensors to use Ford oem stuff, but that's about 550ish bucks... The other option is aftermarket valves stem type tpms, but I read tons of complaints on them. What are you guys' experiences.

For those interested, this is what I got from Ford dealership today.

6f2z1a193g - bands 44 each
6f2z1a189a - sensors 87.80 each.

I've been using these valve stem sensors on a couple of different wheels for several years without any issues.

Sweet, that is the kind of recommendation I was hoping someone would have. The AM version just worried me.. Did you buy a programmer too or go to the dealership.

I already had a programmer from a prior TPMS purchase for 11-14 and it works the same for 07-10

Does that mean the stock TPMS sensors cannot be re-used on aftermarket wheels?

You can, but you have to buy a band for your size wheel. Ford sells them, but they may pull one from a different vehicle. The part number they gave me was from a specific year model f150 that had 20s.

I just don't want to use my old tpms sensors. I have to get my tires removed from my stock wheels then re-added. Even if I don't I would have to purchase new tpms in the future cause my stock ones' batteries may go dead. They are already 12 years old as is.

Works on Ford OEM and aftermarket TPM sensors from 05-14 and 15+ if I'm not mistaken. Works on the wife's 2017 Edge Sport when swapping summer and winter wheels/tires.

That's not a factor. My 08 had band style TPM when one failed I decided to switch to Valve Stem type. As long as the frequency is correct you can swap them like i did.

OP, if you're going to get new TPM sensors then just buy the valve stem style witht he correct frequency for your year car. Band ones are very expensive since very few cars ever used them so I would not waste your time or money looking for band ones.
