I am fixing up our 2007 GT coupe. Installed a nice Sony XAV-AX3200, four new JL speakers (got for $300 total from a local AV store closing!), a new steering wheel, replaced one of the A/C blend door actuators, etc. But I want to install a backup camera to go with the nice new touch screen stereo, and I'm looking to see what my options are besides a license plate frame camera. I was hoping that there would be a 3rd brake light camera, or a camera mounted under the spoiler (but I'd hate to drill through the trunk lid).

So, just looking to see what options I have to get a higher POV for the camera than the license plate. Any suggestions?

I'm not aware of any bolt in options but there are flush mount cameras that go into a 3/4" hole. You should be able to mount one of those into the CHMSL lens while retaining the function of the light.

I installed one just like this but a different brand(not available anymore) on my 13.
HERE

I drilled a hole right above my plate mount, on the underneath of the overhang of the bumper above the plate. It looks almost factory there. It works great too. Mine also came with shims so I can get the viewing angle I wanted. You can see it in this pic below

There were some guys on TheMustangSource years ago that mounted the camera in the trunk keyhole (obviously had to do some modifications for the trunk release). It looked pretty stock TBH.

Otherwise I'm in the same boat as you. I've thought about mounting on the spoiler and routing wiring through the mounting holes in the deck lid but that would be pretty tough to drill out the right parts of the spoiler

I went with the license plate frame mount. It’s very small and inconspicuous.

That would be me. Car is a 06 GT. Wasn't that difficult. Just needed to remove the lock and glue in the camera so water doesn't get in. Then run the wires.

I like what they did with my after-market back up camera install. Mustang had come out with two different spoilers, one to accommodate a backup camera. Anyway, I wanted the backup camera and wasn't crazy about drilling holes in the trunk. The company I went to did drill a hole through the trunk but underneath where the lights for the license plate is located. It is not located on the plate frame. Does a great job.
