Is this an issues that has only been coming up with the hotrod cams or is the same thing happening with comp thumpr cams as well? I just ordered some mutha thumprs today. I really don't want my car making sounds like that :s

Yep, same sound I have. It got better when I put my stage 3 cams in. They don't pulse as much as my stage 2 cams did.

As I mentioned, it is just play in bearings as the clutch system, input shaft/gear, and layshaft/gears all free-wheels. When you step on the clutch, you move it far enough away from the pressure plate that the afore mentioned rotating assembly stops moving and the sounds go away. It is completely normal.

A few people have mentioned putting heavier / performance gear oil in their cars. If it troubles you, going with a heavier oil should help reduce the noise.

And as mentioned by some of us with different clutches, the noise doesn't stop, no matter where the clutch position is.

If you are one of those people, try this test... don't leave it in neutral. Start the car, step on the clutch, and then put is in 1st gear. Does it go away then? If so, the oil change may help you. If it does not go away, then it is not your transmission making noise.

I've actually tried that, I had always written it off as chatter in the twin disk, was just curious what others were running into. I personally think this is a nature of the beast kind of thing, and I can live with it but I see how others can't. I hate it though when it happens at a car show or something, makes the car sound cheap when its far from it.

mine never does it until the car starts to move forward. Then it sounds almost like gears meshing together but it shouldn't be this loud.

I'm real curious if there is anyone with aftermarket cams that does not have this noise.

the dealership has decided that they want to replace my whole transmission under warranty. How much you want to bet the noise is still there after the install?

Just got my car back from installing the Hot Rod's and i too, have that same exact noise. I guess its normal with cams because of the rough idle. I mean the whole friggin car shakes with the cams in it! lol. On another note, i absoultly love the the cams though

Do the 2000-2004 Mustangs use the 3650 also? I wonder if there are any reports of the same noise appearing after installing aftermarket cams for these years also?

They said they were going to swap it out. I went one day to check on the progress and they had it in a million pieces. They said that it was perfect inside and out. They just rebuilt it and the sound is still there.

I have HotRod cams and a 3650, when im sitting in idle it chatters just like in the posted video's, it goes away when the clutch is depressed but does not chatter when driving at all.

I did not have this problem at first after the cam install, my tuner has the idle set at Ford's spec of 680 RPM, with a hand held i lowered it to the lowest allowed setting 560 RPM, thats when i first noticed the chatter. It seems once the car warms up and really hits the low idle point at a light is when im hearing it. When i was playing witht he idle going upwards of 700 RPM would get rid of the chatter, but the idle sounds so sexy at 560 RPM that i just deal with the chatter.

I have not tried swapping to RP ATF but i doubt it will help, so..
