I am now looking for an axle back system. I would like a system that sounds more like the older stangs. I have owned 2 Foxes , and one 2v. They all sounded like monsters growling. As for the s197s I have heard , they all sound different, more like a muffled, BLUP,BLUP,BLUP, sound. Is this because of the muffler placement??? Is there a system that sounds more like the older cars???

I wouldn't go as far as to say this is the best sounding one but i can promise you it will be the last exhaust to be put on my car . It has a good deep sound at idle and at low to mid rpms then just screams at WOT. This is a custom combo I put together . Basic ole school glasspacks at the midpipes , trimmed midpipes , and roush 4" muffler deletes .

Sorry about the crappy video/audio i took it with my digital camera lol

For me it's the SLP Loudmouths. They sound BADASS. You can go on YouTube and search for them and get an idea of what I'm talking about. This is also a good site to compare exhausts: http://www.mustangexhaust.com/. Good Luck.

not bad, but I wonder what it would sound like out side of the car.

I am looking for that old school sound.
I have heard Pypes mid muffler system, and it comes closest so far. Seems like having the mufflers before the axle makes a big change in the sound.

The 96-04 mod motors had a sick sound, its hard to describe. It is like a howl, mixed with a deep lion like growl. LOL!
Its the best i can do to describe it.

I wonder why the 3v sounds so different. Is it because of the muffler location, or does this motor just sound different?

I have LT's O/R "X" (no cats) and flowmaster "40's" which are supposed to be the original flow masters, I like they way mine sounds until I am about 1/3 throttle and then it gets raspy (not trumpety), at WOT it sounds GREAT

I just literally installed a set of Flowmaster American Thunder axle backs and they're awesome!!! That infamous "BLUB" sound is usually due to the stock mid pipe and a axle back. Install a good mid pipe with and axle back and you're golden. I am happy with my Flowmasters and stock mid pipe....well, at least for now. If I ever do a mid pipe it will be a Mac Off-Road Prochamber or nothing.

It's raspy because of the X pipe. Get an H pipe or a Prochamber if you don't like the raspiness.

I think i need to make a new exhaust video, but here are a couple with the current setup sans blower.

Tried to mic the bumper in this video... didn't come out completely like I wanted.

I think the JBA setup sounds pretty close.

Moroso's Axle-Back System.

Sounds bad ass. has some great tone.

This setup that John is talking about sounds great as well. I'm thinking of getting this setup from John.

the s197 will never sound like a 5.0 or the 2v modulars. i have a 1992 LX, and it sounds totally different. IMO the s197 sounds better, louder, deeper, more evil sounding. my set up is BBK LT's and o/r x pipe, MBRP muffler deletes, M80's welded in before the rear end. i also believe that with the muffler being after the axle, gives more of a tendency to trumpet.

in this one i compare my s197 to my fox, most people like the sound of the fox better, but i prefer the s197. i added this in bc the s197 will never sound like the older stangs, and i dont think we should even try to duplicate it bc it aint gonna happen.

'Best' is a subjective term. Best to me means loudest without drone. GTAs? Corsas? GT500KR mufflers? I don't know. Stockers are pretty nice and would probably sound really good with longtubes, high-flow cats and an H-pipe.

Stay away from the Pypes mid-muffler unless you like shit that doesn't fit.
