After wanting em for probably 10-12 years for the 09 I’m gonna do it. Don’t drive the car much, don’t care about mileage. Enjoy the noise. Has catless X pipe and Stingers so it’s rowdy. Doing the FRPP hot rods. Car has 55k miles and is up on the 4 post most of the time so maybe this’ll make me drive it more. Already Lito tuned for the bolt on’s it’s got, doesn’t look like too much trouble to retune for these cams.

Here’s my shopping list, let me know if I should do something else. Car doesn’t need timing work yet.

(Best price / dealer / vender for the M-6550-3V?)
Cam phaser bolts
Wedge tool (used to make these back in the day with my 3D printer)
OEM Ford valve cover gaskets
Ford RTV gray sealant for the head corners / valve cover
Assembly lube

Missing anything? Good recommended vender that’s got a good price for the cams?

I got mine through LMR.com, but mostly because they are local here in TX. Most shops will have the same pricing for Hot Rods.

I would strongly suggest doing the Ford Racing Lash Adjusters, followers and cam phasers while you are in there.

I’ll take a look at em. Shocked if they’re bad at 55k. Normally see these replaced over 100k sometimes 150k

Replace them while you're in there for sure! This happened to my stock followers with a set of comp cams 127400's. My shop reused the originals which probably had 80k on them at the time of the swap. They lasted about another 30k before this happened on a high rpm pull

I strongly suggest changing them out … the follower contacts the OEM cam as such already has a wear pattern.

This is why you always keep them in the same order when doing a simple servicing (valve oil seal replacement) and similar to conventional engines, when replacing new cam old lifters are never reused, this will accelerate cam lobe wear.

The new follower with the tiny pin hole for oil greatly reduces the oil ending in you catch can. I have not seen any differences between the lash adjusters though.

I’m sold I wasn’t aware the design changed. Was this oil passage redesign just on the FRPP parts or is there an updated part number for the ford OEM stock parts? Want to make sure I get the new design. I suppose I should do lash adjusters (lifters) while I’m there

This is the kit you need. The followers were revised late in the 3v run, though I’m not sure exactly when.

The FRPP kit has the most recent version.

When I pulled my cams at 50k, my lifters were a bit spongy and noisy despite being low mileage and clean, so I would just do it all.

Sold. Thanks all glad I asked. Now that I’m thinking and studying it makes sense. Car is almost 20 years old and when I was younger my “usage” was a bit more than I drove nowadays. Ordering up that kit and the cams from LMR.com now

Be sure to pre soak the lifters in an oil bath the night before install too. I physically pumped them all while in the bath until they were firm/all air was removed.

+1 to the phaser bolts too

You're going to love the sound of the cams for sure! I'm running a catless X with factory GT mufflers and I love just listening to it idle.

Soaking is nice, pumping is better ;) The oil will not pass the inner ball bearing valve without it, but it is not a problem, just noise in the first minutes of engine run. Don't know why they changed the oil hole in the follower, but, it is so tiny a small crumb of RTV will get stuck in it.
I have used RTV on engines only a few times, I wonder how much some youtuber use. Most of the time I use Hylomar M and just smear it on the surfaces.

I would like to have a hot rod cam too.......
