I just got a Spec 3+ clutch for my car. It did not come with a shim for the TOB. I called Spec and they told me it is not required. All my research here says I need it if I'm going to use my stock flywheel. Is the guy I spoke to full of shit? Is there any way for me to verify this? Any help is appreciated.

See, that's what I thought from all that I've read. I told the guy that. He said it isn't required. I asked him if it had been redesigned and he said he didn't think so.

yup, really weird ones...clutch engauges at the top of the pedal ...like a inch from the top...also disengauges about 3 inches into the pedal.

I just spoke to someone named Jeremy at Spec. He told me that the only time they send out a shim is with the stock clutch and their flywheel. He reiterated that I don't need it with their clutch and a stock flywheel.

I'll find out when I install the clutch, I guess.

from experience, I would send Jeremy an e-mail. Ask him to respond to you the instructions he gave you re; the shim. You'll have a hard copy and a time/date. Just in case.

Yep written record is hard to argue with man , I have the same thing saved for many things all the way down to insurance coverage for added parts .

+1 Because when it doesn't work properly they are going to drag on the BS then tell you it is out of warranty and you are out of luck. Been there, done that. Won't ever put Spec in my car again. Although I have to admit that the 3+ is the only clutch from Spec that I have heard good reports on for the S197 platform.

I put in the 3+ with the alum.presure plate and the fidenza alum. flywheel with no shims . Everything works great but I will tell you this clutch is damn grabby for the first 1000 miles.
Ohh and bleed the shit out of it

I´m running Spec Stage 1 clutch with a 8 bolt flywheel. Had my mechanic install it. Everything seemed to work fine with shifting the car till after a month when it just would not go out of gear. Had my mechanic take a look at it and he found out that there was a SHIM needed for the clutch for it to be able to release. Thankfully my mechanic was able to make a shim to fit and it works "fine" now.

I´ve been thinking about the Stage 3+ but considering how awful the drivability of the Stage 1 is I´ve been a little hesitant.

Dude, save yourself the trouble and get a Mcleod RST. It will feel/drive like stock and hold everything that Hellion can throw at it. Trust me, I found out the hard way. Yea, it cost more but it is WELL worth it.

Put the McLeod in it. She will be able to drive it again. My wife couldn't drive mine with the Spec 2+ in it, hell I really couldn't either because of all of the problems...long story there. Anyway after I had the McLeod put in she had a blast driving it. She really loved the Hellion kick, almost couldn't get her out of it.
