I have an 09 GT with the leather interior, and when looking at cleaning products, I'm forced to ask myself: is my interior actually leather or is it vinyl? Or, is it a combination of both, depending on the part of the seat?

You'd think I'd be able to tell by feeling it, but you'd think I'd know a lot of basic things by my age that I don't.

Thanks for any insights, here's chainsaw guy as a sign of thanks: :chainsaw:and some boobs too for good measure: :boobies:

From what ive heard the only part that is ACTUALLY LEATHER is the center section of the seat that your Ass and back are touching, all other leather parts inluding back seats and shifter boot are Vynl simulated leather.

Well, I kind of wish I didn't know, but at least I won't waste any money on leather conditioner now. It's nice that there's some leather at least, but only in the sections that wear out the fastest (though the parts you have the most contact with too, so it's good I guess.) I'll just brush scrub then armor all the dang things to keep them clean I guess.

Have you smelled it closely? The leather smell does fade out over time and if its not quality leather then it does not smell much at all, therefore I dont think its all leather.

Take the Ford King Ranch truck leather seat now those smell real nice!! I walked passed one at a used lot and I could smell that leather outside the truck. I wish our Mustangs had that quality leather. :)

Gotta cut costs somewhere.

I went to an upholstery shop once to run some ideas by them and they were quick to point out that only the fronts of the front seats were leather and that the rest was vinyl. In all honestly, you can kinda tell if you really run your hand across it.

so what do I need to clean the brown tint off my gray pleather?:headscratch:

I assume it's just from clothes rubbing on it? I dunno what the products are like in America, haven't had a chance to really experiment yet but when I was a car detailer here in Australia we just took some weak degreaser on a rag and rubbed it down. Then obviously clean it with a damp rag and condition it... How well it will work all depends how long the marks have been there and how rough you are willing to be with your seats...

Thats how I do it on my pleather seats in my car here but don't quote me on it since I dunno how whatever product you use will react to the Mustang seats.

Just about all leathers in cheaper cars are covered with vinyl. Easy way to tell is to put a few drops of water on the material itself. If it beads, it's covered with vinyl. If it soaks in, it's natural leather. You'll only find natural, non vinyl leather in your more expensive cars. Another way to tell is by looking at the creases in the leather itself. The cracks in vinyl coated leather will look white, while natural leather will maintain it's color throughout the cracks. In our cars, use a vinyl conditioner with UV protectant. You can condition the leather underneath, although it takes heating the surface so that the conditioner can permeate the layer of vinyl.

Yeah, I need to know this as well.

I feel your pain guys.. I just had to have the grey leather as well. I use Zymol Z507 leather cleaner and conditioner or Lexol leather cleaner with the Zymol conditioner.

You could use Meguiar's Gold Class but I don't particularly care for the smell of it. The most cost effective and readilly available option was, Armor All Leather Care but they changed the forumla and it is more like tire gel. Lexol, is another good buy for a cleaner. I normally use Lexol as the cleaner (cheaper) and the Zymol for conditioning but I ran out of the cleaner and have not bought more.
