Have had what i thought was a pinging problem ever since my ford racing whipple kit was installed (using the calibration that came with the kit). Ford has sent me a few different tunes, each of which helped but never got rid of all the noise. Several people have listened to it and all thought it was pinging. Someone from Ford took a ride with me last weekend at Carlisle to listen to the noise. Turns out it is some kind of combustion that sounds like pinging but isn't and is not harmful to the engine. Guy from Ford said he drove Ed Badillo's car (guy who developed the calibration) and it makes the same sound but the car has over 45000 miles on the kit with no problems. I mean if you hear this sound you would bet your life it was pinging. Anyone ever heard of this before or can someone explain it? A technical explanation would be helpful. At this point I am trusting what the guy from Ford says...never heard of Ed Badillo before but supposedly he is some calibration Guru and used to be a Ford calibrator. I must say so far I have beat the piss out of the car (6500 miles on kit, 42000 on the car total) and have no engine issues...sounds and runs excellent. Ford guy also said they have never had an engine failure on the calibration that comes with the kit.
