Hey there guys I was doing 120 one day and when I started to brake lightly the car felt like it was vibrating. Does this occur to anyone else? If so what did you do to fix this. Could something be going out in my brake system?

Why were you doing 120....thats illegal....

Could be a warped rotor or the caliper could be sticking and not releasing causing that vibration. That would be my guess.

I think that happens with all cars if you are going that fast and press on the brake its obviously going to feel different since its about 2x faster than what the brakes are used to. Happens with me. at around 100 and i press on the brake a little firm.

Probably the rotors. Mine vibrates like crazy!! Especially hitting the brakes at 100+. It's not even noticeable at around 70ish Funny thing is it seemed to do it even when I first got it. I'm hoping turning the rotors and upgrading the pads will cure the problem.

You all know that all mustangs do have abs and it rapidly releases and grabs the brakes when activated. Whenever I do 100 plus it does it. Even if you did a big brake upgrade it would still do it.

Seeing that not everybody with ABS has this problem I would think it's the rotors. If that was how ford meant the ABS to perform then....... FAIL. I thought the ABS senses when the brakes lock up then pulse to stock form locking? Does the ABS unit even become active under non lock up conditions?

I would have to say no to the pro-active ABS. It has only kicked in when I kicked the brake too hard too fast. This has been for the S197 and SN95's. With that said, it did it's job and probably saved me a time or two while tailgating in traffic. You don't want to lock the brakes up and lose control.

I agree the rotors need a turn to make them true. Likely they are warped or have hot spots that at high speeds cause uneven wear on the pads. This always causes vibration.

Turn them and brake easy next time and always.

I vote warped rotors. I had that problem with the stock shit but replaced it with better parts and i have none of that even with hard breaking back to back.

Ill jack up my car this following weekend and ill let you all know how it goes! thank you all for the help!

the rear brakes also have the emergency brake. It is a shit system. The rubber boots that are supposed to keep crap out fail in a year or two. I had the same problem, I took apart the brakes, cleaned everything and put it back together making sure I used a good quality, high temp brake lube on the moving parts. Problem solved.

AKA pad material build up on the rotor. A warped rotor is rare, 999 times out of 1,000 it's pad material. Proper bedding in will prevent alot of pad material build up.

Did you just use some brake cleaner?

agreed. if i get a little rust on the rotors(letting it sit in the rain over night) they quit viberating for a couple of days until the pad material builds back up on the rotors. i hear slotted rotos solve this, but wear the pads faster.

take the brakes apart, clean it all up good with brake cleaner and then put it back together with some high temp brake lube. The pads and the calipers have to be able to move, if they can't they can bind up and create a vibration. While you're in there check the accordian boots for the e-btake cables. I'd bet they're toast. They let moisture and grit into your brakes. Ckeck the dust boot on the pistons, make sure everything works as it's supposed to.

actually, there is hardly ever a case of warped rotors. The common misconception is pulsating is caused by a warped rotor and turning the rotor fixes the problem. In reality rotors never warp, they get a build up of pad material on them which in effect creates a thicker/thinner rotor which feels like a warped rotor. But it's not actually the rotor being warped, it's pad material built up on the face of the rotor.

Bedding in the pads correctly will prevent a build up of pad material.

Yup. Warped rotor. I got the same problem. I got alot of heat spots on them too. I think turning them might help
