I bought my car brand new back in May, 2010. I been having a problem with the brakes and it starting to get to the point where it's pissing me off. The car currently has 5,200 on her. When you apply the brakes, the fronts squeak and the rears make a grinding noise almost like its metal to metal. In the beginning of August, I removed all the wheels and inspected the brakes. All the pads and rotors are in good shape with normal wear for a car with 5,000 miles. I'm gonna make an appointment and bring it in to Ford to have it checked out plus there are other things I need to address with the car that I'm not happy with. This is my first brand new Mustang and it's already giving me problems. :-(

If it squeals under a light pressure but not under heavy then generally it is the pads vibrating.
Ford put a crap-load of anti-squeal on my 2005. But it wore through and a rear started the annoying squeal.
Reapplied and it went away.
The Grinding though is different.
Need a little more detail on that.

For the rear brake issue, it's under hard braking and light braking. The front have been making noise since 1,000 miles. The rears never made noise until about 2,500-3,000 miles. Like in my first post, I took a good look at the brakes and didn't see anything wrong. Sometime the noise sounds like it has a bad diff. This was my daily driver up until August 21st.

Yeah I'm gonna bring it in. Just gotta find a good dealer around here who will do right by me. I bought the car in Vermont and moved back to Long Island, NY. Where ever I go, I have a nice list to give them.

Brake issue
Steering wheel is starting to lose color
Center console door doesn't close flush
TSB reguarding the air conditioning

The grinding may be a axle bearing. Generally when they go out the bearing seal leaks too and ya get oil all over.
Just a guess but the pads may be contaminated and causing it. Under light and heavy but no sound with no brakes points to the pads again.
Do you feel any vibration in the rear when braking?
Like a mild shudder at all?
Since your under warranty I would let Ford dive into it.
Let us know what the problem is when they fix it.

When braking, I feel zero vibrations from either the front or rear brakes. Just the noise that I'm describing. Depend on when you stop, it sounds worse when other times you stop.

Take er in.
Hope it something simple. The grind is a concern.
Squeal not so much.
Be sure to let us know the outcome.

Got the happy phone call today from Ford. The cut all the rotors and replaced all the pads, they did the TBS for my a/c, ordered me a new steering wheel and ordered me a new headliner clip. Should be here in a few days. On my way to pick it up soon so I will let you all know how it is.

Did they mention what the problem was?
Or shotgun the rotor and pads?
Sometimes it is best to do that due to labor costs.

He told me on the newer Mustangs, the rotors have a high iron content. So when the car sits or there is dirt on the brakes, they in bead into the brakes causing it to do what it is doing. Sounds kind of silly if you ask me but he I see the logic behind it. Plus, he said this is a common problem with the newer Mustangs. So he resurfaced the rotors all around and installed new pads. Said the car has zero noise now when you brake. Everything I complained about got fixed so I'm very happy with everything. Only thing now is I have to go back for the install of the new steering wheel since they had to order it.

If you bought this car with old brake and rotors on it. The change them. Do not go with the ford brakes. Unless it's the GT500 setup. I used Brembo slotted rotors with Hawk HPS pads. They are great. I had and issue with the stock brake early when I bought the car new. I changed them within 6 months. I did the same thing on my 06 Fusion. I went with Powerslot rotors and Hawk HPS pads on that car too. I have tried EBC pads but there is something weird about them. I love Hawks.

I hate turning rotors, they are easier to warp afterwards. I always just replace them instead. The cost is generally not that much more than resurfacing.

I bought the car brand new. I don't have money to upgrade the brake system right now.
