I was browsing around on Motoiq and came across this which I thought was interesting. I don't know if anyone follows Redline Time Attack or even the Speed Challenge for that matter.. but SC has a Mustang they run that is gonna branch into the Time Attack realm to give the cars a challenge..pretty interesting but i'll leave you guys with the article..

http://www.motoiq.com/magazine_arti...d-throws-down-the-gauntlet-to-all-comers.aspx

Saw this car in person at the 12 hours of Sebring last year and it completely dominated the field as it's been doing this year in the Speed Challenge..insane car.

I am assuming they wont be participating in Speed GT anymore then. Since they are fielding a Ford GT in ALMS full time next season.

I cant wait to see what the Mustang can do with no restrictions!

I don't have a car capable of participating in an open track day but I frequent Road America for ALMS, Kohler Historical Race, SCCA run-offs. I could live there. There is also a day that Ford sponsors that if you drive a Mustang you get in for free and at the end of the day they let you haul ass all over the track. That one lap on Road America was more fun than ALL my drag racing days. Taking the twisties is my new goal!!

I have only made it out for ALMS but now that I know of the Ford sponsored event I will have to make it out for that also. We should meet up out there and check if anyone else would want to meet up

I've been following the Mustang Challenge, the Continental tire series and of course the ALMS. While watching the 10 hours of Road Atlanta Petit Le Mans, I just caught the tail end of the Audi blurb from the announcers. Is Audi pulling out of that series ? We used to have an ALMS event in Portland Ore, but it hasn't been here for a couple years, sadly.

Sonicblur, you don't have a car for track day ? What does that mean ? I track my stock 05 whenever I can here in PDX.

 That's exactly what I was thinking - you have a Mustang man!!

Hey, I'm in the Chicago area as well. A few of us on the boards here are from the area. Hit us up some time and we'll get you on track. Hell, Dave's going this weekend with NASA (but that one's a bit of a hike).

If you can wait until next year I'm actually going to run a college course that has a field studies component at the local tracks. You can learn the basics of getting out on track, enjoy a couple weekends of driving, and get college credit at the same time! How cool is that.

Or skip the class, just hit us up.

Best,
-j

Quite the contrary! It's actually better, for driver development, to start out in a STOCK vehicle. That said, the only things you really need to take your first hit on the open-track crack pipe is a car in good condition, and preferably fresh brakes and tires with decent life left in them. That's it. The overwhelming majority of cars out there are driven to the event, flogged hard, then driven home, all without ever turning a wrench. It's the full-on track junkies like me that trailer the car (or in my case, pull a trailer load of tires WITH the car!) and have loads of go-fast goodies on them. Especially for your first time or two out there, don't sweat the details, just focus on driving and learning!

The season is just about over, unfortunately, but PM me next year, in like April, and we can talk about getting you out there. In the mean time, I'd be happy to talk you through any questions you may have.

your stock car (it will be tech inspected just to make sure it's safe) and;

helmet, motorcycle helmets will work if they're snell rated. But get a good one. Long shirt sleeves and fire retardant (or leather) gloves are what's called for around here.

If you can find an HPDE event locally they are normally a good place to start. A class the night before and then a few laps with an instructor. Normally about $200 for the day and class. BUT, the good thing is since it's a driving school, your car insurance will normally cover you. If you're out at a normal track day you may have to get additional coverage, or drive a little more sanely.

You could also join your local SCCA and autocross a bit. It is great fun, very addicting and really teaches you car control.

ah, well that's good. The Peugeots have been stomping the R15 when and if they can stay together. But at the Pettit Le Mans, wow, the helmet bladder cost the Audi guys that race. Funny but sad at the same time. It's always the little things that get you.

Any spy shots of the R18 yet ? Closed cockpit ? Hopefully it can/will handle like the R8s. I hear the drivers say the R15 just isn't the handler the R8 was.

I'll be there, since i'm close by.
I think that guy will have his work cut out for him

There are a few locals that hold track records that should give him a run

GST motorsports TT record car
Cobb/Goto GTR if they show record car

The Bay Area is a power house for road racing...not gonna be easy for him...unless others no show
HP is important always...but @ Infineon not so much...driver/setup on this track then hp

Maybe Colin should drive his car? lol

I think he'll have a tough time but that car is def setup right for what he's trying to do. I think he has a decent chance to go through and put up some good times

I haven't seen any shots yet but supposedly it's already built just haven't seen shots yet. I'm still excited to see the Lambo next year running in gt2!
