I found a heck of a deal on a set of 03 cobra pistons. Has anyone figured out what the compression of these are in our cars? I can get them for 250 shipped and then I'd just need to get a set of rods and I'd be set.

if i remember correctly the 03/04 cobra forged pistons where 8.5:1 compression. I'm running 04 pistons with a 3V head and stock head gaskets. No extra reliefs cut in pistons. If your running stock cams you should be fine. I was running BBR stage 2 cams with the lifters shimmed .060" and was still ok.

From the software programs i could find i think my compression is around 8.7:1

It would be a good deal if they were 3V specific..... and in a new block.

considering you will work in your current block, you would need to go 0.020 over, meaning those stock 3.552 pistons wont work for you.

I would recommend 3v specific pistons. I feel that a clearance issue could arise when you really want to turn it to 7k RPMs on an constant basis. One could end up having valve to piston clearance issues, which are never good! There is a difference between the two pitons. Not to mention, running a big cam becomes even more dangerous.

I have seen great build go to shit because of one part not being for the specific build. Using a 2/4 Valve piston for a 3v build could be a perfect example. However, some build never have problems at all, and they were a budget build. This is just my opinion.

Not sure what you mean by this. Assuming there's nothing wrong with his current block. A hone job and new rings and he should be good to go with 3.552 pistons. A little more ptw clearance is a good idea for a boosted motor anyway, so I don't see a problem there.

As for the pistons themselves, I too would be concerned about the valve relief. The 3V relief is pretty deep and I'm sure was put there for good reason.

Has anyone ever dealt with Mod Max Racing. They seem to have some good deals on their internals. Without the crank they kit is 800 with new everything. Doesn't seem like a bad deal, I shouldn't need to change the crank if I only want high 500s.

Stick to the cobra crank and rods if you wanna save money. Contact MMR for the pistons and rings and the gaskets you'll need. Good time to go to head and main studs if your going to be making some power.

I got my internals from them and they shipped everything quickly. I got everything except the crank. I just had my stock crank rebalanced. I shift at 6000rpm since I run stock cams, so the stock crank is fine at my power level.

I went with ModMax H-beams with ARP200 cap screws, Manley pistons, moly file fit rings, and the King bearings that come with it. Everything was within spec and I only needed the crank balanced and pin end of the rods honed for oil clearance.

I'm a dealer for ModMax and use their stuff in everything we build. You will be fine with the stock crank as long as you don't rpm it past 7000.

Blah, Blah, Blah.

Take MMR and stuff them up your ass. Do not stain these hallowed halls with that blasphemy.

I have been running 4v pistons for a few years now. I am making around 823rwhp through an auto and runing 9s. I don't know about any kind of cam with that since i'm just using stock. Mine are a -18cc if I remember correct.

Here is a pic of my shortblock before it went in:

Typically you're good on valve to piston clearance up to .500" lift with the four or two valve pistons. And that includes a true flat top.
