Well I know its blow by causing it. I've watched it happen. You can watch the fumes, smoke, ie blow by happen when you crank the engine with the hoses off. As far as not having oil on my valve covers, I'm using stainless crankcase breathers that are blocking the oil from blowing out.
Maybe the rings are protesting because of that non O.E.M. supercharger, wouldn't that be a bitch?

Thanks for all the great feedback guys.
I'm glad everyone is happy with the part and thank you so much for posting up all the pictures.

Now, look at the oil you are getting in a few miles, just imagine if that oil went into a breather? Smell? Oil drip?
This is simple and cheap with no future problems.

This thread is over 10 pages long, if your just getting here and want to push the breathers, please go back to the first few pages and see this has already been discussed, we don't need to repeat it again and mud up the thread any more.

Thanks
Jay

Sorry about the distraction Jay. Those catch cans are actually pretty nice and it looks like a clean setup when installed, nice job. P.S. it would be cool if you could machine a sight glass into the canister.

I'd never do just breathers. They make a mess. This can looks good, and it looks like it does a good job. I haven't driven mine very far yet so I haven't bothered checking it. I'll post up with mileage and a pic when I see something.

Got mine in today! Took all of 45 seconds to complete the install.

I'll get in around 50 miles tomorrow, and I'll give you my impressions.

Nice looking unit!

For those on the fence about the color, I kinda wish I got black.

Thanks a lot Jay for getting these out to us.

Am I the only one that thinks something is off here? In 50 miles you guys are collecting about 1 oz of oil in the can. That means that if you went the recommended 7500 mile service interval you would have collected over 4.5 quarts of oil out of the 8 that's in the engine. :wtf1:

I think its time to do some more R&D. This also means that without the can you would have burned this oil inside the combustion chamber so every car that doesn't have one of these that waits until 7500 miles to change the oil would have burned over half of its oil. :omfg:

Before I was vented, which by the way didn't make a mess at all after my race on Dec 4th and under boost, I used an oil separator set up on the driver side only. The passenger side was capped off. I only collected a slight film after 200 miles.

It's not 1 oz, but more like 1 tsp.
The can holds about 2 oz and that's alot.

If it keeps 1,2 tsp's or 1 oz out of the engine in a oil change it is worth having.

1 race with a breather will not make a mess, drive it hard for 20-30 minutes on the street or road course and you will see why I wouldn't do it.

In testing I did a breather on the road course and lost 2 QT's (yes 2 quarts) of oil in 3 30 minute sessions. Oil all over the engine, header and running down the frame rail.

Drag racing is not the same as hard street or track time.
If you JUST drag race, go ahead put a breather on it.
If you drive it hard on the street, make it simple and filter the oil out with a separator.

Realize that you are debating something that was heavily discussed and proven back around '06.

Nothing has changed. First S197?

I want one chromed or polished with out the JLT logo on it. Do you make them like that? I don't like advertizing products. I will tell people where I got it from if they ask.

No, can't polish due to the knurled bottom and can't chome due to the heavy threads.

Well, I did have a customer chrome 2 of his for a GT500, but it was very expensive.

Only black or clear/silver

Here's my black JLT can installed.

JLT1.jpg

And here's how much was in the can after driving over 600 miles yesterday.

JLT2.jpg

In the interest of science, I used a small syringe to measure the amount. It came out to just shy of 1.5cc. I did a few triple digit blasts, multiple hard launches, two donuts in the Walmart parking lot for some young fans of the car and took my brother for a ride that would make most people come back with gray hair. It seems as though this car will, in cold weather, start spinning the tires at 60mph on a sweeping on-ramp when you shift hard into 3rd. Total mileage was 638 miles.

I will again hypothesize that higher compression/RPM Red-line engines have more blow-by. I had a Civic SI that has 11.5:1 compression and that car needed a catch can as well. Other wise, I would have to add a total of 1/2 quart of oil between oil changes. I would get a bit more in the catch can on that car than I do on this Mustang. I have added about 1/4 quart of oil on the Stang since I bought it 3400 miles ago. I plan on going to 5k before doing my first oil change. Perhaps I might wait until the system tells me to change it, but either way, I'll go full synthetic when I do. And full synthetic seemed to blow by more so than dino oil in the Civic. Just have to wait and see on this Mustang.

And I'll also say this again. Within a few miles, I had a noticeably better throttle response with my Mustang. Crisper and a tad more "sudden" would be the way to describe it.

If you don't have one yet, get one NOW. JLT's is the ONLY one that allows you to put your stock hoses in with all the other stock parts from your car so that if you need to return it to stock, you've got it. Glad I waited for JLT to finally kiss enough Ford booty for them to get the hoses.

Can I get one without JLT on it? It will save you on the engraving.

Tucker, I just ordered a black one online after hearing all the positive feedback. Will this affect driveability in any way due to the difference in pressure in the tube now that there is a can inside instead of a perfectly sealed line?

I am confused about the possible side effects (if any) of installing this.

Also, since I just literally put in my order, when can I expect it to ship out?

Well, I got mine in and managed to install it in a matter of seconds! Literally.

I've not seen any of the throttle improvements that Frank mentioned (I think it's the placebo effect Frank), but I am certainly collecting oil.

After 100 miles of commuting along with some aggressive driving, I've managed to get just a little less than a teaspoon of oil.

I'm very impressed with this unit. Very well made and has a nice feel to it.

Thanks again Jay for another great product!

Boo the man who wants one without the engraving!
