Here's the quote they gave me...Ive never had a build quite like this, so just wondering if this is about average for a built bottom end, labor, etc etc. I would like to get more reliable boost, but Im not sure if I want to pay this much for another 100-150hp...This quote doesnt even include the fuel system upgrade or new sc pulley...Decisions decisions...

In my opinion, the machine work and s/b assembly is way high. You are looking at a hone, torque plate bore, cleaning, possible line bore for the cams and assembly...

Tq plate bore/hone about $250
Line bore-$150-$200
Cleaning....$50-80
Assembly...$200-$300
For the extra money they are wanting they better be doing some super bad ass blueprinting or something...From the prices you are showing it would make more sense to simply buy an Aluminator shortblock...they can be had for around $3200, are already assembled, machined, and include a forged crank. Get your heads r/r and have someone install it if you don't feel comfortable. This would be getting you a new block and a forged crank, and would also allow you to sell your current shortblock for a few hundred to recoupe some cash.

The engine install at $1000 is high too but I know alot of shops charge that much for that. This is my opinion, i'm sure others may vay.

Seems bout right to me but I also think aliminator is the way to go, I'm making just over 600 rwhp on that shortblock & I love it!

Couple of things to think about:

*Main cap side bolts are TTY. I never, ever rebuild a modular without replacing these. The stretch encountered is huge after 2-3 torquings which you're sure to hit if the mains are being honed.
* Where are main and rod bearings?
* Where are head and exhaust gaskets?
* Where is oil and filter?
* Now's a good time to upgrade to the GT500 pump
* No upgrade to a forged crank?

R&R is pretty reasonable IMHO. So is the machine work if they're doing it all right...ours usually come in around $1800-2000 for everything the way I like to have it done.

They've quoted you cheap rods and pistons, and expensive everything else. If you're comfortable with that, and you have no other options, then do what you gotta do.

You can do MUCH better though. And like mentioned, there are a lot of parts/prices missing there. You'd hate to go in expecting to be taken for $5k, and find out you've got another $1500 they didn't mention.

Shop around or look at other options.

If they stick to that price, that is killer.

Make sure the place will back their work!

I am failing to see how someone can drop their car off, have the engine removed / machined / built, re installed and tuned for $5k out the door.

The average dyno tune cost is $500. The average shortblock price is $3500.

So you are getting R&R engine labor, ARP Head Studs, Cylinder Head Work, ARP Damper bolt....for $1000. That's incredible.

Yeah, you put lot of trust in that company doing so..... New shortblock and reassembly alone is that cost plus reinstall and tuning I would guess around $6500-7000

The guy doing it has already tuned the car...He specializes in Mustangs and other Fords. He gives discounts and trys to make it as reasonable as possible if someone comes and lets him do all the work. He does all the assembly, etc while a shop in Birmingham does all the machine work...

price sounds cheap , especially if your not doing all the work , in which i wasn't

it's the little peices that add up, my total cost of high comp engine build was 8,323 and that includes the gt500 oil pump, oils, radiator fluid and other miscellaneous fluids, tune, gaskets, bolts and miscllenisu other stuff .

just to put the engine in the car was 840 bucks

the engine i bought off of coral forums for 200 bucks

stroker kit off of ebay was 1100

local shop to machine and balance and install the kit was 1250

head work was 940,

upgraded valves and springs and covers all together was 500 off of ebay

heads were 300 used

then a shit load of miscellaneous upgraded parts i bought , upgraded coils, wires, spark plugs, gt500 fuel pump

but after done with all that and 10.1 compression and all the bolt ons in my sig i gained 456 on 91 octane, he said with better gas and race gas the motor could probably hit near 500 no power adder

1 - not included in price
2 - not included in price
3 - not included in price
4 - already upgraded
5 - stock crank is already forged IIRC
